Tried your version of mane and tail painting here. fav.me/d7isbq2
It's definitely been the most user-friendly version for me. Thank you!

Gorgeous... I'll definitely use this!
I have one question though, Did you use a tablet for this or did you use a mouse?

I worked with a mouse for ages too, but if you can I would definitely get a tablet, you can get one fairly cheap but they really do make a difference!

Oh and thinking about it, at what stage do you add the band?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
oOo-Alouette-oOo In reply to ElementEquine [2012-10-21 16:46:34 +0000 UTC]
whilst painting the mane I just had the purple placeholder for the band on a different layer beneath the mane and I avoided this area apart from the odd strand whilst painting the mane. Then once I'd finished the mane I went back to the placeholder layer, erased the purple and just painted in the band. Alternatively though, you could just paint the mane, then either erase and area or just paint/add the band straight over. Either way, I would suggest adding the band last.

Ah ha! I'm just going to do the head of that horse for now as i rushed prepping before painting. I'll give a link when it's done.
Anyway, it's a beautiful peice and you should be real proud. And one last question, I'm puzzling over what tablet to get. I'm interested in the wacom range, but what do you use and recomend?
ThankQ!

ok, I'll be looking forward to seeing it!
Thank you
I use a wacom bamboo fun, but it's a couple of years old so I think they've changed the styling a little, but I would definitely recommend it. It's only simple, but it was quite cheep, it does everything I need it too and I've never had any trouble with it.

Beautiful work!
And yes, it's so 'magical'
It hasn't to be realistic.
You make a manipulation cause you want to let your fantasy speak
Well done!
And very helpful

idk... it is an amazing tutorial but horse hair is very brittle, very thick, like little tiny whips.
horse hair just doesnt get that curly..
there is a lot of bone to that tail and if the tail is flicked up, the whole tail goes up.
it doesnt do that unnatural... twining thing...
beautiful photo-manipulation though.
i guess i just cant appreciate your fine artwork because i have horses and it doesnt seem right to me.
-however i have the same problem with my sisters fairy stories because she didn't look up the European history and just made up her own thing... i had a problem with that.
so dont mind me at all. i was just giving my opinion.

Although it is rare, there are some breeds of horses that do have naturally curly hair, maybe not like as this, but curly nonetheless. An example would be the Bashkir Curly Horse. ([link] )

Okay, I most have misread your comment, I'm sorry. x3 She did mention in her tut that if you didn't want an unnaturally curly mane that you could stop at a certain step and you would have a natural mane.
