This tutorial shows the making of my Terra sculpture oozepheroo.deviantart.com/art/… and also includes many tips that I discovered either while doing research or while making this.

Of course, just about any polymer clay can be used, though some are better for certain things than others. I much prefer Super Sculpey over Original because it is much sturdier and easier to work with.

Any feedback and critique about how I can improve this tutorial is GREATLY appreciated. Don't hesitate to make a suggestion!

I'll be happy to answer any questions the best I can.

That truly takes a lot of patience.  Very nice work.  Working with foil makes it a lot easier with the more delicate parts but I must confess it drives me crazy.  Cannot wait to see your next installmets

I haven't had the chance to try our Sculpey III yet (clay is sooo expensive for my poor student budget) but I think you could easily apply the stuff in the tutorial to it. I've even read about artists who mix a Sculpey III color (usually gray) with super sculpey. The reason for this is because super sculpey isz a little translucent, and mixing it with a completely opaque clay can help the artist see the details better. Also, the sculpey is supposed to be even stronger when it's been thoroughly kneaded prior to sculpting, and it's easier to see when it's been kneaded enough when you mix colors because it will be uniformly blended when it's ready. ^^

This has really opened my eyes to a lot of things!!
I've taken classes in scuplture but they never told me to make a base with wire and foil--genius!
And then there's the part about making the spikes and such and cooking them seperately--that would make things so much easier!
Thank you for posting this--it will make creating dragons and people with clay sooo much easier!
