Description a tow-headed boy stands on one leg, a pocket of his shorts filled with stones. he stands with the sole of one foot against the opposite thigh, resisting the downward pull. he throws a stone as hard as possible, then watches the ripple settle.

again. again and again and a fifth throw but not time to watch the ripples settle before a distant shout, a woman standing in a doorway. the boy drops his foot and, holding his waistband firmly, crashes into the underbrush.

the library stands still and silent, observing the dying ripples in his place. as the sounds of trail-blazing wander into the distance, silence like dust settles down over the lake, the library. silence like dust enshrouds each solemn brick.

this is the first ceremony.

your writing is like plein-air paintings for some reason I don't quite understand.
