Description Here is a little tutorial that can be applied to many different costume props using pepakura and paper mache. It's fun, easy and inexpensive! This is the method I used to create an "adamantium" jaw for my husband's Deathwing costume. Use this tutorial to create your own or apply it to other projects! Happy crafting!

The paperclay itself is really smooth and covers the paper mache nicely. A bit of sanding makes it extra smooth.

I am so grateful for this tutorial/information on the viewers and how to. I find this stuff as inspiring as it is informative. One question though. To what scale is the jaw loaded as in peparuka? I tested it myself and it has come out small scale like mini jaw prints.

I'm so grateful you put this up though! I'm going to make an entire steampunk inspired costume from this! hehehe shoulderpads in wow here I come.

I am glad my tutorial is helping you! And, yes, the scale is way off. I have no idea what the default is for importing WoW models, but I had to print a few test pieces until I got it to the size I wanted. Please link me your costume when you are done. I would love to see it!

Okay. I'll just have to estimate a 10% for the teeth and then apply that percentage to the rest.

I'll definitely have to give youa link/credit for it. otherwise I'd be stuck trying to much about with paper mache.

I'm almost done with a plywood gun as well that you may like. Gotta drill bits into it

I am excited to see how it turns out. I also want so see how it might be applied to larger prop pieces, like shoulders. I know people do pepakura/resin, but I'd be interested in knowing how a large-scale pepakura/foam/paperclay prop holds up.

I'll be giving a mage shoulder tier a go, the one with the moving cog/gear wheels. I figure if I buy some desk fans and use the batteries in those with some lightwieght cogs I could get spinning effect XD

Thanks! I used to make tons of little Chibi papercrafts, but when I made them they were sloppy.. But that was a year or two ago, I think I might start up again! I'll always envy your cosplays though, I just order them like a lame-o..

What is your paper clay recipe?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OrangeMoose In reply to Val-Von-Vile [2012-03-19 23:41:23 +0000 UTC]

It's premade from a company called Creative Paperclay [link] and it's made in Japan. Michael's use to have it but now I can only find it at a local craft store or online.

Quick Question: How did you guys keep your jaw on? I've built the jaw a couple times (all sorts of fun sizing there) but really haven't played much with keeping it on (did spirit gum once... oh the lawls that came with it).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OrangeMoose In reply to VStewart [2012-01-25 00:11:16 +0000 UTC]

We attached a velcro strap to it. It is still a bit tricky with the strap, but it worked in the end.

do you happen to know where I can get some Starwars, Gears of War, and other props and costumes for Pepakura... I looked on google and everything I found was ether outdated or it gave me a virus.

You might try poking around in the 501st forums for Star Wars related files.
