I don't believe I've ever gone into full detail about the abuse Cyrus was a victim of by the hand of his dad. It's something I never really had the opportunity to give a full explanation of before. These lyrics from Bo Burnham's new special kinda finally to pushed me to make something based off of that aspect of Cyrus's backstory. It started when Cyrus found out he had the life magic he did, and his dad was insistent that "no son of his" would end up with anything other than fire magic like him, so he takes that anger and frustration out on Cyrus in the hopes it will "fix him", ignorant that you can't "fix" the kind of magic a demon child inherits.

Cyrus tended to lock himself in his room a lot because of this, and if his dad was really having a bad day, he'd lock himself in a closet, hoping that his father wouldn't find him, and bracing for the worst when he did...
