well why have a long barrel? after 18.5" the slug will begin to get slowed down from the rifling, thats why most firearm companys that produce rifled shotguns such as Remingotn and Savage only have 18-20inch barrels. secondly the most accurate slugs only have a distance of 200 yards, even then you'll still only get a 4" grouping. and hunting a trex with a 12g...lol, Id much rather use a .458 Magnum with 500g pill

Wow! You are really into ammo!

As in my country all guns are striclty forbidden for civilians, I had to think in more common know ammo, so I choose the .12, that was pretty used in hunting in my grandfather's time.

In this case, I think .458Magnum would be the better for a hunting rifle long as that one

Actually the effetive range of a shotgun is about 50 meters, unlessyou use slug ammo which extends your range to about 100-150 meters.

o.o Long rifle is loooooong, and what's .12 solid ammo? Because .22 caliber is I think the smallest caliber used for hunting anything... to match the width of a 12guage shell you'd have to go up to like... .50 BMG or more I think. Shotgun Guage and Rifle Caliber don't have the same numbering system for some reason lol. Least not in America, which is all I know >.<

Well, once I red that there are several kinds of .12 ammo. The most commum is the frag one, for shotguns, but there are solid ones that reachs longer ranges

Yap, caliber measure is a mess, some have english measure, other uses metric...

Anyway, its a .12 shell, but it doesn't frag

You don't use a decimal when referring to guage. Guage is an old-timey measument that refers to the number led balls the diameter of the barrel it takes to make a pound.

The decimal is only used when measuring the bore diameter of a rifle or pistol in american measurements. So a .280 Remington cartridge would have a bore of .28 inches or about 7mm.

In portuguese we use the word "calibre", that is used to measure diameter either in inches and milimiters. So we say "calibre .12" for shotguns and also "calibre 9mm" for 9mm pistols.

I really didn't knew the correct term in english, and Google Translator said it was "gauge"

Calling it a .12 calibre is still incorrect because the bore of a 12 guage measures .729 inches or 18.5 millimeters.
