Samantha flinched as Salina ran a finger across the cut under her eye.

"Amateur's work," Salina commented. "Poor thing."

"Please, don't hurt me," Samantha begged.

"Hurt you?" Salina repeated, she suddenly punched forward, moving Samantha's head to the side so that she hit the brick wall behind her smashing a hole in the wall. "That should be the least of your worries."

"Why did you bother saving me then?" Samantha asked.

"What?" Salina replied, tilting her head.

"Just now with, Anthony," Samantha said. "I know you could've killed us both. Why did you bother saving me, just to kill me now?" Salina stared at Samantha for a long moment, her eerie green eyes unblinking. Then Salina released her grip on Samantha's throat and lowered her hand.

"Don't ask stupid questions," Salina said as she turned away. "You're not worth killing, there would be no satisfaction in it. Count your blessings this night, you live to see another day."

Salina turned around, and Samantha just stood where she was as Salina recovered her shirt and jacket and walked down the alley, leaving Samantha alone, the bodies of the three muggers in front of her. As Salina disappeared around the corner, Samantha let out a long gasp for breath that she had been holding as she slid down the wall. She put her head in her hands and wept.
