Christian stepped into a guest room, glancing around finding the room empty, and turned Scarlet around.

"Calm down," Christian said soothingly. The fire in Scarlet's eyes died down and she stopped struggling.

"That is the second time I have had to drag you away from Mr. Solan," Christian continued. "When will you learn that your temper will not help you here?"
Scarlet looked down at the ground, like a child who had been scolded by a parent. Finally when she could no longer avoid his gaze she looked at him.

"I don't know why I get so angry," Scarlet said. "I mean, I'm used to holding a common grudge or disliking someone. But the way he looked at me..."

"He is a very cunning, charming, and highly dangerious man," Christian said.

"He was inside my head," Scarlet said as she started shaking. "He made me think things. Things I have not thought in a long, long time. Finally, I just became so enraged I wanted to rip his throat out."

"This is exactly what he wants," Christian said. "He knows about your temper. Don't let him use it against you."

"I'll try," Scarlet replied.

"I'm here, if you ever need me," Christian said, placing a hand on Scarlet's shoulder.
