Christian led Scarlet out of the room. Scarlet glanced at his hand, feeling a warm sensation go over her, and then looked up at him.

"Why are you being so nice to me? I have done nothing to deserve your kindness," Scarlet asked. "And don't quote some cheap Bible verse either."

"Because you need someone to look after you, more than most," Christian replied.

"You think I can't look after myself?" Scarlet asked.

"I didn't say that," Christian replied. "You are strong; there is no doubt about that. You just need someone to look after you. Everyone does. Just like how James has been looking after Jena. He worries about you too."
