Description
This railing is destined for my cousins house back East.It is inspired by the shape of water vortices, from a marvelous book by Theodor Schwenk called "Sensitive Chaos"The Creation of Flowing Forms in Air and Water.Related content

..going to be very cool. I've had an affinity for drawing mushrooms that create mushrooms in the negative space for a very long time. I recall making doodles in high school during class. Then 1 1/2 years ago a friend told me that a copper cuff that I was wearing was in an early celtic style. She let me borrow a book. I made this cuff based on an artifact from the time period ([link] ).
von karman vortices? [link]
..I promise i'm not imitating your work , although I do really admire it. I made both of these before you were on my radar.

No worries ,
I told you we had some of the same affinities.
That is exactly where I got the idea for the railings (Von Karman vortex street)from one of my favorite books "Sensitive Kaos".And also because the railing went to my cousin who grows mushrooms and gives workshops on foraging and mycology.

I have a VERY expensive (out of print)two volume set titled "Early Celtic Art"by Jacobsthal which has illustrations of the original 300+ bronze ornamented sword sheaths unearthed at La Tenne.I have never seen any other publication with these AMAZING organic patterns though many references to the work in literature about the Early La Tene Style.

My cousin Martin is also a mushroom grower so the shapes have a double significance.

Reminds me of my misspent youth and the mushroom pickers credo...
"When in doubt, throw it out."
Different kind of mushrooms though.

My old man was a mushroom hunter. My art career started at about 8 years old selling water color paintings of mushrooms I'd found in the deep woods (on the coast of Maine). My father would identify them and then I'd inscribe the Latin names in calligraphy and sell them for 50 cents to the tourists...

From humble beginnings, as it were.
Morels are what's big around these parts. And, Hay-soos Creesto, do I love them damn things!!!
Big difference Maine to California.. weather, culture, the whole nine yards.
Almost as wild a swing as mine - upstate New York to southern Illinois.

Culture shock with both moves for sure.
