I hope so. Truth is I don't work well with other peoples ideas. I try, but it never comes out right when I work that way. I'm sure most artists are like that to some extent. Lots of people ask about collaborating on big things and I hate telling them no, because I don't want to insult them.

Haha! Yeah, I've been there, too. One guy comes up to me with this lame idea for a single comic strip, and he figured somehow just one would make him a millionair if he could just find some artist to draw it for him. He even offered to split the profits 50/50. So what would that be, like... 20 bucks a piece? I get the feeling some people really don't understand how this market works.

Ain't it the truth! Getting a comic strip syndicated these adys happens about as often as a woman over 40 re-marrying! And trying to get into COMICS is almost as unlikely. Self publishing is the way to go, but don't expect to make any money on the deal.

Sadly it's true. I think I can still make a living at it, but it's going to take some effort. I have a better chance at this point than submitting for syndication. I still haven't heard a thing back from anybody.

People just need to get off youtube once in a while and enjoy other forms of entertainment. These entertainment fads run their courses. Comic art may see another peek sooner than we think. I remember hearing that when the English novel became the big thing to enjoy (Anything by Dickens especially) play houses suffered greatly because people would stay at home reading these gargantuan epics rather than going out. Same thing with movie theaters, now. Why be forced to conform to time schedules when you can have instant access to millions of hours of videos right at home? The thing will wear itself out, and some other form will drag its rear into the spotlight I think.

I fear video games are the NEW comics. Why read a single story when you can PLAY the story and effect the outcome...and then play it again and get a different outcome! And they are not going away anytime soon.

That's possible, but even still video games only interest a specific kind of person. I enjoy playing Old Old 2d games, but I don't have the time or patience for these huge epic games. I think that requires a certain kind of mind set (maybe lack there of?) to enjoy that. Eventually they will go away, and people will get all misty eyed over the things. By that time no one will be interested anymore.

I hope you're right! My fear is we are creating a generation of watchers/players/voyeurs who do not CREATE, only get swept along in someone else's vision. I have a couple of video game systems...I had to buy them to see if these games were as cool as everyone was telling me. ANd I found I am too interested in doing art to waste a lot of time on gaming.

I think these things go in cycles, and we're at the peek with these stupid guitar hero games. I don't get what's so hard about buying a REAL guitar and learning to play the damn thing. Costs about as much as the game consel. Most games I'm okay with, but Guitar hero just seems stupid to me.

A buddy of mine is a guitarist, and he calls that game: "Pavlov's Guitar", and his attitude is pretty much identical to yours. He reminds me that the game does not in any way even slightly teach or prepare someone to try a real instrument! It's unique unto itself and if anything might detour someone who might otherwise try to learn to play the real thing.

I learned to play guitar, and I tell you it is not hard, nor does it make one Godlike. It's a basic 6 stringed instrument. Instead of getting out and doing something, a lot of kids (some of these kids being 40+) would rather live their pathetic fantasies through a digital screen with pretty colors. I have a list of games I detest. Guitar hero is in the top 5.
