Description
A Pale Drow wizard studying a scroll in his private chamber.Lore notes: (see my "Midiuth's Children" Deviation for full explanation)
The current set of Drow that I will be doing a whole series on are "The NachIlythiir" or Nachoma dermu Ilythiir loosly translated from the Drow language (Nach slang version) means the "pale skinned" or "white skinned Drow". Also called "Nach" (The white ones) for short by normal drow.
Pale Drow worship Vhaeraun and are male dominated in their society.

Fantastic work, wish I would have found it sooner To those commenting that "this would never happen", please note that not all Drow societies are loyal to Lolth and not all are female dominated. As stated in the description, Vhaeraun is also an official canon Drow deity and is the patron God of Drow males. The societies that bow to him are usually male dominated. Regardless, even in Lolthian Drow cities, there are concubines in brothels for hire.
Also important to note that female control over Lolthian societies is in many ways just a status quo, it doesn't apply to every situation. Certain extremely powerful males, notably Gromph and Jarlaxe Baenre, were such that no female would ever try to pull rank on them. Even the Matron of their house feared them. In any case, excellent work!

Good job-great detail& the albino drow are indeed intriguing.I Β am currently writing a story that seems to be growing on its own.My main character is a forth-born son born to a lesser noble house.Since not much is expected of him,his House (espescially The Matron Mother & the House Wizard)are amazed Β as he grows older,to become one of the most powerful drow in history. His is innate powers are much stronger than other of his kin,who name him "curseborn".They are mistaken. He more than proves his worth by almost single handedly obliterating a rival House.Later in my story his house is called to Menzoberrenzan by none other than a curious Matron Baenre. His feats of battlemagic & other rumors were known to the Ruling House,so Matron Baenre grants his house higher status & new House in the capital city.He goes on to study all he can find & his scholarly skills seemed impossible.-----Last thing -I fear I have shared to much already. He becomes the first drow to graduate from both Sorcere(school of magic) & Melee-Magthare(school for fighters)----I have much more & need someone who is interested to help with a first image of him.-----Sorry, you said you wanted ideas,my mind is fulll of them.

Niiice! I likes it very much. Very well done ^-^
Just a small p.s. there are albino drow; they're called szarkai (zahrk-eye) i don't know if this is what you were going for, or whether you were creating a new "breed" of drow. Anyways, the picture is, as i said, very well done, and it will most definitely become one of my favorites

Awesome! Thanks for the answers man, I hope you do more of these characters soon, maybe more of those two hot drow girls there with their master. lol, also, perhaps they could revive their god somehow as Llolth once was, wasn't she? Or ally with a new diety

Awesome! So who is the wizard in this pic and how are his lovely female companions related to him? Are they mates or merely slaves?
Oh, sorry to bug ya with so many questions, but what sort of character classes do the pale drow have if they are male dominated? I assume that means the men are physically stronger than the women (like the Lolth priestesses are to their men) and the guys fill the roles of priests and mages apparently...so are females used as fighters and slaves then? Or can they be mages too?

PaleDrow In reply to KaijuDuke [2009-02-23 19:19:37 +0000 UTC]
The females are subserviant mates. The Wizard is without name.
The males can be any class but as former followers of a dead god , they were usually classed out according to that god's profile(priests, mages and warriors and many rogues) The females were at first denied any status except servant but they make good spies posing in a Lolth based society thus the rogue class is encouraged for females and mage studies are allowed for the privilaged daughters of powerful males. For example, Midiuth's daughters are powerful wizards and one is a traitor who has turned to Lolth (see the picture Bellikkti)
also keep in mind pale drow can change their skin color to black through will power alone, and then back to white by allowing the pigment to fade. In other words they have concious control of their skin color.
They all live in a dictatorial regime with the face of a male dominated senate based on the power of the individual.
The men are stronger then the females in most cases and, in their own minds, smarter and more endowed with the weave.

this sounds like some RPG guys weren't happy with the matriarchist Drow society and insisted on changing it back.. but then - why not just play  aboveground elves? -.-°°°

Awesome picture. I was actually doing a search for "male drow" cuz in a game I was playing a male, albino drow, what a coincidence (I'm not stealing! put the shotgun away! just was wanting visual inspiration).
Of course the irony, as I saw it, was that I'm making an albino drow... so why the heck would I even do a search for a drow?! But its interesting how you actually made them look super sinister like that.
I don't know, for some reason the black colored, male drow usually, though not always, look goofy to me... I'm just used to pitch black and stark white on the same entity belonging to fluffy house cats, and so I see a picture of a drow warrior and I think "oh look, its mister fwuffletums!"

In the "nach" (shiort for nachoma which means "white" in the drow language) society, the leaders are actually the black skinned drow, at least in my version . They are not really albino drow, they can actually manipulate their skin hue from pigmentless (white, pale) all the way to jet black (like a normal drow). But the natural color of their skin without infusing themself with pigment, is white, thus the "Nach".
Painting a black skinned drow is indeed difficult, especially within their native dark atmosphere. To top it off, the paler skinned versions (usually grey or light indigo) do tend to look more natural and attractive. But I have seen some very good renditions of black skinned drow, the trick being to add some warm colors to the skin and not paint them entirely jet black lest they look unnatural.
The story of their society is slowly evolving within the forgotten realms. I am glad you are enjoying the pics.

Beats the PHB illustrations. Or well, the two-and-a-halfth edition ones at least
It's beautiful, I love it when fantasy paintings aren't over-the-top, and this is very well done too. If you'll take constructive criticism though, the composition could have been planned more carefully. So there.

Thanks ,
You are absolutly correct on planning the composition. This particular piece is one of my older ones I did several years ago. The composition is lacking and had very little planning as far as pallette , color composition(too much black mostly) and perspective/anatomy. I saved it though because it , after a bit of tweaking , held some charm. And also I like to have older pieces around to compare to my newer works so I can measure my progress.
