It's World Pangolin Day! You know what that means! A PLETHORA OF PANGOLINS!

Pangolins are my favorite land animal, and I really hope they don't go extinct! World Pangolin Day is a day to spread knowledge of these amazing creatures and raise awareness of their critical endangerment, so here are some facts for everyone!

Pangolins are the only known mammal with scales. These scales are made of keratin, and protect the soft underbelly of the animal. To escape predators, they curl up in a ball to completely protect their soft spots.

Pangolins' tongues are so long that they're about as long as the animal's body! The tongue is rooted on the creature's pelvis, and rests in a cavity in its chest. These long tongues help pangolins reach into termite mounds or anthills to scoop up ants and termites, their favorite food, after breaking into the mounds with their four large claws!

Pangolins are the most-trafficked animal in the illegal animal market worldwide. In Asia, they are hunted for their meat and scales, the latter of which is thought to have medicinal properties or is sometimes used for clothing. This has led to a high demand for pangolins, causing many of the eight species to become critically endangered.
