Description
I painted the ocean onto my bedroom walls so I wouldn’t be able to leave it behind. It didn't work
the silence of my walls is deafening.
I lost so much when I lost the ocean.
For the first time the necklace that I lost in its currents finally seemed gone forever.
I lost the place where you first held my hand on the freezing windy dunes.
I lost one of my friends, my mentor, my ancestor.
The ocean was there to show me that some things last forever
And there are some things on this earth that we can’t pave.
It's one thing you can't paint black
A being that I can't hate
and I thought it couldn't make me sad.
I hung a sea shell above my mirror
But when I look up at it at night
it just makes me feel empty
because now it has been taken away from its home
just like me.
You jokingly told me
That you were glad that now at least I’d never drown
but I could think of no better fate
so didn't answer back.
