I eat meat, and appreciate and care about animals.Β  It might mostly be that I don't usually think of the process that happens to create meat.Β  All around, though, animals eat other animals, and humans where also designed with carnivorous traits.Β  I WOULD PREFER Star Trek esque replicators, but, until then, I'll settle for what we've got.

How do you know for sure they don't feel pain? Meat consumption is still not something I want to a part of. I'm not saying that everyone has to stop eating meat, but pretending that there's nothing wrong with killing an animal to devour it's flesh isn't okay to me. I grew up in an agricultural area, I've seen the living conditions of these animals, and I've seen desperate cows being pulled into the abattoir scared by the stench of blood. I don't think it's right. It's bad for the planet too, methane from livestock is the greatest source of pollution in the world! Eating meat when there are good tasting alternatives makes no sense to me.Β

Well rabbits or other prey felt scared before they died by their predators. Its the circle of life. We are at the top of the food chain. It should make sense to you because it's fine to eat meat. There is nothing wrong in being the animal that you are.

I'm not shunning you for eating meat, I'm stating facts and my opinion πŸ˜‚
If you don't agree, that's up to you! I'm not going to go steal your week's supply of meat from your refrigerator am I? To each their own!
All I was saying was that I find this stamp, and more particularly the comments, very annoying. People are basically saying they had animals, loved them, gave them names, and when they got hungry they diced them up, but that doesn't stop them from loving pigs, they just love bacon more!
I don't care so much if other people eat meat, it's the lack of respect for the animals being used for consumption, like it's just a given, their lives are worthless. I'm allowed to say that.
As for the "cycle of life", we're not in Lion King. We live in a day and age where humans don't hunt, they farm on a massive scale. The animals' living conditions aren't the best and it's not good for the planet. They're a great video about itΒ here Β if you're interested. If you are not interested in learning more about the topic, then may I ask why you replying to my comments?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

forever-a-doodler In reply to xKittyCreatorx [2016-05-10 19:04:39 +0000 UTC]

No, that's why I don't eat them. By that logic, we should eat everything, since we are top of the food chain. We should eat dogs or cats, because we are top of the food chain and they are beneath us in the food chain. But (here in the west at least) we chooseΒ not too. Because we have that choice as omnivores. You can live a perfectly healthy lifestyle without consuming meat, our bodies can make do without it. Don't give me the "top of the food chain" drill. We do not eat all animals, but are still above them because we are more advanced as a species. Giving up meat wouldn't make us loose that status, and that status doesn't mean we can't give up meat.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xKittyCreatorx In reply to forever-a-doodler [2016-05-10 19:39:34 +0000 UTC]

but every animal has it's purpose. If all the wolves died out, there would be too much deer. If all the deer died out, the wolves and other predators who feast on the deer would as well. But as omnivores we can choose what to and not to ear. But we shouldn't be criticize for it. Also how do you get the iron in your body?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

forever-a-doodler In reply to xKittyCreatorx [2016-05-10 20:09:59 +0000 UTC]

There are two types of iron: heme and non-heme. Since I don't eat meat, most of the iron I consume is non-heme. You can find it in beans (lentils, soy, tofu...), vegetables (leafy greens, brocoli, tomato....), grains (quinoa, brown rice, oats...), nuts and such. Since my diet is rich in all of these, I don't pay attention to my daily intake or anything, I just make sure I'm eating lots of these foods. I also get some heme iron from dairy, but not much since dairy doesn't have much iron despite being animal based 😊
I also drink orange juice since vitamine C helps to increase iron absorption.
It sounds conplicated but I don't even think about it πŸ˜…

(I read your conversation with the other guy)Β

I eat meat and love animals. I give thanks to the animal that had died for my meal and I always make sure they had a good life before they died.Β

I also wear fur, but just like with the meat, I make sure the soruces are a humane ones and the fur farm I got it from was decent enough to give the disacarded meat to zoo animals (they gotta eat too). Even then I prefer vintage to be 100% safe that I am not supporting an abusive source (too bad artifically grown meat is not avalible yet or else I would be eating that instead).Β

I despise tastless (no pun intended) jokes about chopping piglets up and making them into bacon, because there is so much more to an animal than just their meat or fur.Β

I am intrested in your opinion on my side, since you do come off as reasonable.Β

And you come off as very reasonable too! (sorry I've taken so long to reply, haven't been on DA in a while )

The world needs more people like you. At the end of the day, it is a choice that every one should be able make for themselves. I admit that I secretly hope that one day the whole world would be vegetarian, but I doubt that would ever happen . What is really important to me is that animal cruelty stops, and that people stop detaching themselves from the idea that meat and animal are the same. Beef=cow, porcig, ect. This is the hard truth, no one really likes it, but there it is, and it's important to remember that they are living things. Killing animals in a humane way for consumption, though I do not "approve", I tolerate since I understand it is, for many people at least, a necessity. Killing animals for sport, in unnecessarily cruel ways, or without a plausible reason, is just wrong. Killing without the slightest remorse, I feel at least, is kinda wrong too. I myself only wear fake fur and leather, but that is because I don't eat meat. If you're going to kill an animal, then kill it respectfully and use all of it, like the native americans did for exemple. In an ideal world, no one would have to kill anything, but I think what you're doing is the next best thing

PS: About the artificial meat, minced soy meat tastes pretty much the same. It's worth trying, even if it's just out of curiosity. It makes a nice bolognese sauce

Thank you Β

I have started to eat meat only once a week (not including fish) because I feel humans only need meat once a week, not every day. I will only support the slaughter of animals if absolutely necessary for health. Even with fur farms, so far only $25 has gone into buying a brand new fur, all the rest are vintage and secondhand. That is $25 dollars out of the possibly $1000 I have of my collection. If my math is correct, 2.5%. Because if there is a more humane alternative, why not go for secondhand? It is humane for humans and the environment too.Β
While I think meat is needed for the world, I do not think humans need meat as much as they say. We should respect the animals that died for our meals and give them the best life an animal could have before we kill them. I cannot see how factory farm owners sleep at night, they must be devoid of any feelings at all. It is money driven.Β
I hope someday in the future we will make an artificial meat that is exactly like real meat, health and taste wise. Then killing an animal for meat would be a rarity.

I will most certainly try it! I like to soy alternatives in my 5 min noodles and mac and cheese, so hopefully the fake meat is not as gross as people make it out to be XD

In the end, an animal still died for their pleasure

I'm not saying that they aren't entitled to eat meat, or love their dog or whatever, I just find this stamp and the comments so irritating. Humans eat meat, they are designed to, so I understand that people want to eat meat, I did for a long time too, but I always felt kinda bad and sorry for the animal, as do most decent people. The people here don't see any problem with loving an animal and then killing and eating it, they have no sympathy and don't find it in the slightest bid sad...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

poindexterr In reply to forever-a-doodler [2016-01-13 21:14:21 +0000 UTC]

That is true.
But I think comparing a cow to a dog or cat is unlogical.
Cattle, pigs, and chickens are BRED for their meat and necessities.
Dogs and cats are bred for COMPANIONS (both as a friend as a hunting companion)
It is sad, yes of course. I don't regret eating every burger I eat, though. But I do think about how the meat got onto my table.
I personally could never give up meat. I have a very sensitive system as is, and meats provide me with the nutrients that my body needs to keep going. If I take supplements or take vegan/vegetarian alternatives I could get really ill from it.

forever-a-doodler In reply to poindexterr [2016-01-14 19:12:45 +0000 UTC]

My fight is not with meat eaters on a whole, as I said you guys are the ones eating the way people really should ^^
It's just people who don't respect the animals, that's what I don't like. I can tell by your comments that you obviously do, and my quarrel isn't with you. I have lots of family and friends who eat meat just like you do, and I see no problem with that at all, as long as they are conscious and respectful of the animal
I could argue that all animals should be treated the same, but to be honest as long as they aren't mistreated I think it's okay for people to consider them differently. I mean you couldn't love a slug like a dog, and neither could I.
Of course, but you realise that's it's kinda sad, and to me, that's human. As long they sympathise to the cause, I don't mind if people aren't willing to make the sacrifice themselves. We put ourselves first, and not everyone is the same. That's okay
I am vegetarian and take no supplements at all, and B12 is the only supplements that vegans needΒ to take (some take others by choice, but they aren't strictly necessary). Just thought I'd let you know so you don't think we're all druggies XD
But this stamp (to me at least) is very arrogant. It's basically saying "I love animals, until it's dinner time!". Yes, you can love some animals and eat others, but there are people in this comment section saying they had animals (such as chickens), loved them and gave them names, and then killed and ate them. That people claim to have loved something and then killed it when they weren't forced to but did so for pleasure, for me that's wrong. You can't love something if you're willing to do that...

on a side note: Bill Cipher! Cool Β

Oh yeah, I know!
I agree with you there!
People who kill the animal just for the fun of it, and not appreciating its life are total jerks and I cannot stand them.
I agree. I think animals should be treated with the same respect, since for most they are our food source. But I guess that's too much to ask for? :I
Oh no, I know you guys aren't druggies
I have friends who are vegan/vegetarian and take supplements. I was just stating that I personally cannot due to medical reasons.

I also know people who grew up on a farm, or who currently do live on a farm and they name their chickens/cattle/pigs/etc.
But, they only kill the animal after it can no longer produce eggs, milk, etc.Β
I have friends who have been really close to a hen on their farm, but they need to be able to make money off of the eggs, and they need to keep food on the table, so when the animal has lived its life (in a sense), that's when they would kill it.
I know the people I talk to who have been through this understand the importance of killing that chicken or pig, and will often mourn the animal after killing it. But they need to do so to keep the farm going and to avoid overcrowding.
These are the kinds of people that I respect, personally. Because despite growing an attachment to the animal, and having to kill it, they respect the life the animal had.
The people that just kill the animal like it's an every day normal routine, and don't think twice about it irritate me a bit.
I understand living on a farm may be difficult, but respect your livestock when it's time, you know? xD

But yes! <33
I'm disappointed the show is coming to an end, but it had a fantastic run!
