For months, Detective Frankie had been researching the case. He knew he was close. Just a few more details and pieces of information, and the whole criminal network would be finally exposed.
But that had time until next week. It was Friday afternoon, and a 60-hour week was behind him, and a long bank holiday weekend lay ahead.
He would finish the case with a clear head when he got back.

He didn't hear them entering the office.
And when he did, it was too late.
Ruthlessly tied, gagged and blindfolded with solid tape, he squirmed on the floor, helplessly listening to the intruders turning the whole place inside out. He heard the sound of desks, folders and files overturned and emptied, of his laptop being smashed to bits, and of documents being shredded.

The case was closed.
