Description: The only old-world tapir is the Malayan Tapir. It is also one of the largest tapirs in our world. This tapir might looked like a combo between a pig, an elephant, and a giant panda, which give this animal the name "Panda Tapir," because the forequarters and back-legs are black, while the rest of the body was white, making this tapir familiar to people. As it is said to be the only Old World tapir, the Malayan tapir was native to the island of Malaysia. Tapirs have short trunks, similar to the extinct unrelated Machrauchenia, though the tapirs have 4 fingers each, and 3 toes each. Like rhinos, they have poor sight, but an excellent sense of smell and hearing. Baby tapirs are dark-brownish with white spots and stripes, to make a tapir calf really good at camouflage. The Malayan tapirs are crepuscular and solitary creatures, but the exception of the bond between the mother and her calf. The baby coat was fading to adulthood, as this animal grows up. Threats to this tapir, are deforestation, flooding, and their predators tigers, and humans as poachers.
