around the time where pokemon X and Y was released, there was many new gimmicks. character customization, furfrou's forms, and the like. my favorite one, however, was the gimmick with the newest "early on bug type", vivillon. vivillon is known for having different wing patterns depending on where you live.
i loved collecting the vivillon variations in my copy of pokemon X. i used to grind a bunch of scatterbugs until they eventually turned into vivillon, then proceed to put them on the GTS in exchange for other vivillon. you could call me a vivillon hoarder.
one day, i got a vivillon of the same pattern as a vivillon i already had, named "vivi". now, i usually would put it in the wonder trade, or the gts, or just straight up release it, but for some odd reason, i was compelled to keep it. i put it in a box with my other vivillon called "vivillon hoard", and continued my vivillon collecting. i put some of my own vivillon on the gts, and hope that i dont get a duplicate pattern afterwards. after some time, it was getting pretty late, so i decided to go to bed.
the next morning, i ate some breakfast, and then proceeded to check my pokemon X game. i checked my vivillon hoard, and there was my vivillon collection all safe and sound. i decided to wonder trade away vivi, though. however the game wouldn't let me, and instead said "you cannot get rid of this pokemon at this time." i found it strange, but i thought nothing of it since i wasnt fully awake at the time. i proceeded to save my game, turn my 3ds off, and do some cleaning around the house.
when i got back, more awake now that i did something productive, i checked the vivillon hoard box again. i decided to try to trade away vivi again.
"vivi seems to be busy at the moment."
now i knew something was wrong. i tried to release vivi.
"vivi's still busy. come back later!"
i was really angry, but i was able to calm myself down by doing my vivillon collecting routine. however, it didn't let me get rid of the duplicates. the game showed a text box that said, "vivi needs them for something important."
"oh, fuck off, vivi." i said to my 3ds angerly. my vivillon hoard box was full now. i sighed, saved the game, and turned my 3ds off.
i tried to calm myself by playing some games on my computer, but the anger wouldn't go away. i checked my pokemon X game again, and went to check my vivillon hoard yet again. what i saw this time, however was shocking.
all my vivillon were gone except for vivi. vivi had these makeshift, stitched-up wings from all the vivillon i had previously stitched onto her back. it was holding a "wing mail" that said the following:
"i'm unique now. do you love me?"
a yes/no option came up. "no, of course i dont love you," i thought,"you got rid of all my other vivillon."
i hesitantly selected no.
"vivi is very upset with you."
my 3ds then crashed. i quickly went to start up pokemon X, and a text box showed up and said, "you save file is corrupted."
i wasn't able to play pokemon X after that.
