Description "Wanderlust"

One in a series of nine framed elements that, when grouped together, make up An Introduction To Collective Memory. They are hanging on her wall above her bed in her newly redecorated room.

Standard process: mixed media assemblage using misc. cardboards, misc. clippings from magazines and books, copper sheet, papers, sketchings, glue, frames bought at a thrift store, acrylic paints, and of course a lotta love.

One of the most beautiful deviations in gallery. It's very well put together. The worn-out look here is just amazing.

Wow thanks! I'm pretty much living by the worn-out look these days with my painted pieces. I'm liking the results I get.

How did you do the overlay thingy on the picture? It looks like glue but textured too. Anyway, it rocks

overlay... hmm well not sure what you're referring to cuz i didn't overlay in layers, except images, then glue, then paint. yes, i did glue on top of the images. it creates texture. you can see it most obviously on the red square. Then when i brush paint over the top, it enhances the texture.

yeh i meant over the illustration (which by the way is awesome, where did you find it?), but i can see now that youve said it that its glue and paint over the top. You probably know, but i found that paper towel (the really thick bobbly stuff, not single-layer stuff) is amazing for texture if you scrunch it up and stick it down with LOADS of glue. Painting over the top is awesome for dark skies and the like.

the illustration on the left was from an ad for a clothing company in a magazine i believe. oh, and yeah paper towels can work wonders! last semester i used those religiously in my artwork cuz i lived in a dorm that constantly had rolls of those in the bathroom. you can see them especially well in You Just Feel So Isolated , all scrunched up on top.

ooooooooooh that illustration (the flower thing) is so gorgeous (sad i know). At my school theres this old music room with books in it, some as old as early 1900s or maybe late 1800s. So i sneakily pinch some and scan them in at home before returning them. Ive come close to a pattern like that, but never quite as good.

Inspiring! Worn to near irrelevance with a hint of meaning makes it explode with such.
