Description "Everything that happens is a new thing, everything seems fresh and memorable"

One in a series of nine framed elements that, when grouped together, make up An Introduction To Collective Memory. They are hanging on her wall above her bed in her newly redecorated room.

Standard process: mixed media assemblage using misc. cardboards, misc. clippings from magazines and books, copper sheet, papers, sketchings, glue, frames bought at a thrift store, acrylic paints, and of course a lotta love.

I really enjoy the use of old materials to create new and wonderful works! Also your muted, warm temp orange range used in contrast to the cooler more vibrant blues are very well handled! Excellent work I'm sure your girl will love them!

Thanks man. That orange hue in this one is largely a piece of copper sheet I found. I really like the idea that I can take objects that would of themselves be considered useless and give them new value and interest. Makes me happy.

(Then again, some are from the early 1900s)

well you could scan them and either print them up on your own paper or use them in a digital collage. personally, i like using the actual paper. besides, i don't want to use the same scrap more than once anyway.

ahh, well that's half the fun. I bet you didn't know it, but in You Just Feel So Isolated I spent a lot of time carefully collaging the top portion of the piece, only to try out an experiment with the paper towels, trying to get them to be see-through, and lost all of that imagery beneath. But I just kept going, used it as part of the process of the piece, and I'm really satisfied with the result. In fact, I think it's kind of cool that there are hidden messages and images that make up that piece that you can only see about 2% of under all that paint. It adds the meaning of the piece.

So don't be afraid to take risks! Art is a process.

Yeh on mine i carefully laid down clippings at the top, only to cover them with great swathes of paper towel

Ohh yes! I thought that was just some very bright orange paint, but I understand now...
