Description
This is my submission for the PROJECT ROOFTOP "Iron Man Invincible Upgrade" contest. If you haven't checked out PROJECT ROOFTOP, it is worth it. The idea is to design better versions of character's existing costumes, tweaking and re-interpreting to fine tune classic looks. There's tons of cool art from some of the industry's best and brightest. Check it out HERE:[link]
Here's the notes for the design:
"I was interested in trying to make the armor more layered, more interlocking sections, like an insect's plates, to have full coverage and yet still allow for movement.
I wanted to try having his visor be more "buggy" with a single, fish-eye to allow for multi-directional viewing.
I also liked the idea of everything that Tony Stark builds would have a logo to promote his companies. Always the businessman!"

I love it. It's very sleek. I love the gunmetal-colored parts, too. The helmet makes me sort of think of Cyclops from the Marvel Manga series, but it's still cool.

Thanks very much. I think the competition is going to be VERY tough, as PR attracts incredibly skilled illustrators. Still, I thought I'd toss my hat in the ring and give it a shot.

True, but given the current climate of the Marvel universe, he's the director of SHIELD now, and damn near everyone knows he's Iron Man. Even if they didn't know that, Stark was never shy about branding his tech, so even if it was Joe Schmoe in the armor, it would have a Made By Stark on it somewhere.

I dig it... a more industrial/corporate style, without making it too "sinister" looking. Bringing in some black, and cutting the gold back to an accent color works really well.

Well, we'll see if the ROOFTOP people dig it as well. I did the inking at our Wednesday night comic club meeting, so it's not the cleanest, but I thought it still looked OK.
