Description Low shrink clay form loaded with sawdust and chunks of feldspar. Built around the body of my 12 year old Iguana (deceased). Fired to cone 8. The bones remained fairly intact. Reinforced with a steel a exoskeleton post firing.

Sorry about your iguana, this was a good way to remember him. The form itself is really striking, and the colors and textures seem fitting for a sarcophagus. I'm impressed

I think it's a beautiful form and the texture looks very tactile.

Thank you! His name was Pugsly.
I initially wanted to memorialize him and use his body for the technical challenge of making a plaster mold. So I spent 6 hours to make a 21 piece mold of his body in the position he died in. I used that mold to make wax positives for bronze casting. The decision to cremate him came only after removing him from the mold. I wasn't what to do with his body. I didn't want to just bury him either. So, I mixed up a low shrink clay, positioned him on a long board and built this form around his body. The form was a bit brittle after the firing, so I welded on the frame. It hangs on the wall, although, in this photo it was taken while hanging from some pretty strong fishing line.
