Description
My character, Shirinara, doing... Something. I'm not sure. But it looks neat!Well, it does in person, anyway. It turns out that my demon scanner hates blue now, too. None of my shading shows at all on any of the blue. Oh, well. What can ya do?
Done in cheap Crayolas, the only pencils I brought. I think this one's alright, but I've done better. It's pretty artificial and boring. And I wish I hadn't put that big fatty shadow on the rocks behind her when the light isn't even bright enough to shimmer on her fur! Oops.
Rarr. I'm done now.

The blue bleeding off into the grass makes a nicely glowy impression, and I really like how the magenta-ish colors bounce off but don't clash with the cooler colors.

WOW! Your images just get more and more complicated all the time. How is someone like me supposed to keep up with you? I really like how you made everything glow. It's really impressive. I've never really figured out how to do that. I do agree that her fur looks a little flat, but it works with the whole picture.

Really, thank you. I should have put more contrast into the browns of her fur...

Perhaps you can get her to cast a spell of compliance over your scanner? Bend it to your will Peachfuzz!
I like the blue shadow behind the rocks in the foreground- quite an unusal touch that adds to the 'mystical' effect. And the little tiny purple glowy spot on the staff is really nice too.

I like this! The light of her magic is eerie, the slight glow in the stones is reflecting into their shadows and the staff is creating a very sharp strong light. You haven't messed it up, you've effectively got multiple sources of light. Good color harmony and beautiful balance.

Purr. Sometimes if you get complex lighting right, it can look weird -- but I've gotten better at seeing the light in a drawing and all those shadows make sense. I especially like the harshness of the shadows from the staff, those are so dramatic!

I really love this piece! If you say the shading was eaten I can't imagine how good it must really look
I actually quite like the shadow, I think it was a neat idea, but too bad you didn't shade the rest of it to match =\
Other than that eveyrthing looks really good! I love the pose and her hair and outfit are awesomely colored. the feathers look totally aweesome too!

Wow, thanks! I really appreciate that. Thanks also for noticing the feathers. I thought those came out particularly well. :3

Whoah! This is excellent! If your scanner sucked the blues away, I have to say it didn't do a very good job of obscuring how good this is.
I think the shadow is fine-- in fact, I think it's a great touch! I love the way the blue changes from dark to light, the posture of Shirinara, and the tribal, spiritual aspect of this... it really looks like it has a great story behind it!! And can I say how much I love how the blue bleeds into the grass? SWEET.
The coloring is topnotch. I could go on and on about how I love her hair.
A lovely job. You are so talented

Thanks so much. I never get tired of your wonderful comments. If you're not the first one to notice the blue shadowing on the grass, you're at least the first one to mention it! Good eye.

the character's pose is excellent. I think the shade is not bad. but personally I feel if the blue on the background is more darker, the good mood will come out.

That would have looked AWESOME if you'd just made all the shading with as high contrast as the rock behind her. Like, make the half of each rock pointing away from the light almost black, it'd be great. But even as it is, pretty cool! I really like the way you draw grass. It seems so simple, yet looks so good. Great stuff. This is a fairly simpe picture by your standards, but it's still pretty great looking. Neat, too Good stuff. <^^>

I love your idea for the lighting on the rocks! I think a bright glow based on the magic flame rather than a soft one coming from the stones themselves would have been much better. I need to start planning more before I attack with pencils and regret what I did.
Thanks!

Sorry your scanner's being a nasty poo-head. I, too, use a Lexmark scanner, but I got really, really lucky and get an All-in-One Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax X6150 from my grandparents because it printed at a slight angle and they didn't like that. So much better than my other old $30 scanner. I don't know what image editing program you have, but you may be able to adjust the blue color levels to their correct color.
The shadow is kinda funky, but, oh well. These things happen. At least you were able to spot it. Catching mistakes helps prevent them in the future, y'know. And doesn't look that awful.
The pose is cool, though! It looks like she's charging some form of magic into that wand, there.

You're the second person to tell me that you're impressed by a better model of Lexmark. Mine's an X3350 and sucks big toe, as I explain over and over. Thanks for saying that; It gives me an idea for a decent scanner without paying a ton for a snazzy HP or something like that. Also, thanks for the kind comment on my art!
I can tweak color levels, easily, but it doesn't help. True, it can restore some of what my scanner messed up, but it can't fix what my scanner missed entirely. Where I had a gradation of six colors, my Lexmark will find two. Or where I had three, it'll find one. The only way to replace the lost shading is to go in and digitally redraw it all, something I don't think I should have to do to make my work look decent. If I wanted to draw on the computer, I'd do digital art, darn it!

Actually I like the shadow behind her. It adds to the fact she is summoning fire (which I guess is the ritual in intent). The rocks around her look like they're glowing, is that due to the fact she is summoning blue fire? Other than that it looks very good.
I wish I could see some shimmers or shading, so grrrr to your scanner. I can only wish you can get a good one. Have you tried Lexmark scanners? I have one myself (although it is a scanner/copier) and it works somewhat well, you can see the shading when I do colored pencils, I think.
Glad to see that you're doing more artwork!

Have I tried Lexmark? Heck YEAH I've tried Lexmark, it's the demon scanner that destroys my art! It was mighty cheap and is appreciably easy to use, but its color definition disgusts me. Mine's a combination scanner/copier as well, model X3350, horrid beastly machine! I hate it with a passion.
It's good that you seem to be happy with yours. Maybe I got a bad one? I swear it has been getting worse the longer I've had it. Or maybe it senses that I hate it and wants to spite me?
Ha, listen to me go on! I simply must thank you for your kind comment and the fav. I really appreciate that.

You're welcome Mine's one of X5000 series, I think. Sorry about the scanner you have, but I did happen to have a Lexmark Scanner which was truely evil and died on me a year later. Good thing I didn't have it while I was at DA because it was gainy. And when it died, it died with a croak. No, I'm not kidding. You should definately get one of the X5000 series, since I believe I got mine kinda cheap at Best Buy and it has worked very well with me so far.

It makes sense that my X3350 would be of worse quality than an X5000 model. This Lexmark isn't grainy really but its color definition is so bad that I would almost prefer grainy scans that show the correct colors! Thanks for the tip. I should have figured that Lexmark would have several models.

grr to your evil scanner! my evil scanner won't do the right shade of green for just one particular color, Green Tea. Don't ask me why, I wouldn't know. I think scanners are like catsm they choose when they want to work with you, or work against you, or just not like you at the moment! But anyways, I think its a cool picture, and I wish I could see the awesome shades of blue that you tell us about!
