Description
Three of my cohorts from work treated me to dinner this evening on the occasion of the fourth member of the team being in Rochester from Lewisville, Texas. It is one of the finest teams I have ever had the privilege of being part of.
While waiting for the other to arrive at the restaurant, I walked across to the bay side of the road and out onto dock for this shot of the sunset across Irondequoit Bay.
Jim, Greg, Brian, this one's for you.

With a simple point-and-shoot. It really was gorgeous.

Now THAT is talent. Framing the photo so well it gives the viewer such a pleasing amount of symmetry, mixed with the brilliantly captured, almost faded sunset leaves many (myself included) with a strong dose of envy.
Well shot, sir.

I'm learning now that photography is 40% skill, 10% good equipment and 50% luck lol. Often times you catch a lucky break and BAM! Great compositions such as this are taken.

There is a lot of recognition after the fact. To say it another way, what I intended or thought the photo was about is not necessarily what it ends up being about. The images take on lives of their own.

Thanks, Courtney,
Keep taking pictures of what interests you, and think about the composition as you set up the picture in the viewfinder.

That's a fantastic shot. The colours in the sky and swirls of red and gold are amazing, even better that you've got it reflected in the water. Apt title as fire is the best way to describe those colours.

Thank. There is an 18x24 framed print of this one from dA now hanging in my Edward Jones rep's office.

I'm not surprised you picked that one. How'd the prints come out? I don't often order in large prints for myself and I've never tried dA's service.

I was quite pleased. The aluminum museum mount frames are quite attractive and serviceable. They do not glue the prints to a board, but did put a solid sheet of masonite behind it, so it was laying quite flat. My son says if he looks really close at the 18x24 he can see traces of the jpg artifacts, though not on the 11x14. 18x24 was rather pushing the resolution.

Sounds good. I've tired a few printers and had variable results. I had finally settled on one I was happy with only to have it shut up shop when it was bought over, so I'm looking around to see what else is out there. It'd be good to get some more prints, maybe with nice frames to match if they are decent too and it's easier to get it all done at the same time for me.
