Description     Niera knew almost nothing about her mother, she had died giving birth to her. What Niera did know was her mother was an elf and the small port town Niera called home was not her mother's Hometown. Her mother came into the town one day on the back of a merchant's caravan eight months pregnant. She sought refuge in the local church, a church of Nise, and spent her remaining pregnancy in seclusion. She would refuse to talk to anyone most days, on the rare days she did converse it was always with a sister of the church and only to say that the child in her was not fully elven and she had always wanted to live near the sea. One day, after her month of solitude, she staggered into the church's antechamber to the surprise of all the sisters. She announced her water had broken and then collapsed on the floor. The sisters rushed about her and tried to help, but Niera's birth was her mother's doom. The sisters never were able to find out her mother's name.
The church of Nise collectively decided to take in Niera as a final service to her mother, and promptly began to argue among itself over what to name the poor child. After a week they finally settled on a bastardization of all the popular choices, and so Niera became Niera. The church raised her to become a member of the church for twenty years, and for twenty years Niera willfully refused, instead going to the docks an learning the ways of seafaring. her twenty-first year brought the difference. Niera had recently discovered men and  found one she thought she liked. Upon approaching him He seemed interested, even offering a place in the forest they could meet in private. Happily Niera agreed, not questioning why it needed to be in private. On the day of the meeting she stole away from her duties both at the church and the docks and went to meet the boy. She was late getting away from her duties and so was confused when she entered the glade and discovered it empty. She was just beginning to turn around and leave dejectedly when she was knocked over from behind and gagged. She was flipped over forcibly and saw the man she had been supposed to meet. The man raped her and afterwards left, flipping a copper onto her as payment for her services.
She ran back to the church and to her chambers where she was discovered sobbing by a sister named Sara. Sara asked her what was wrong and Niera described her ordeal. When the story was done Sara immediately began comforting her, advising her to purge the memory of the man's name from her head, which she promptly did. When Niera had settled down Sara asked what she was going to o. Niera looked inside herself and found nothing but three things, rage at the man, sympathy for her goddess and love for her church. She expressed a wish to become a sister. Sara nodded and took her to the antechamber where they had a hasty induction ceremony wherein she became a aspirant sister. After the ceremony she was sent to her room to spend the rest of the day in reflection of her new position. She was to make her first offering to Nise on the next red moon, which happened to be that very night.
Night came and several of her fellow sisters came and blindfolded her then escorted her to the place she would make her offering. She removed her blindfold when instructed to do so and was amazed. They had taken her to the glade where she had been raped! And then she smiled, for in the glade was the man who was her rapist, bound and gagged. The sisters nodded to her and handed her the ceremonial cutlass. She began to approach the man, who squirmed frantically. As she neared him he suddenly became very still, and she sensed a trick and readied for it. As she came within a yard of the man he lunged at the sword with his hands stretched to grab it, for he had untied his bonds. Niera swiftly side-stepped ad kicked the man to the ground. Then she began to make her offering and enact her revenge. The thing that died as an offering to Nise that night was not a man.
For the next twelve years she served as a sister, in which time she became a knight sister and rose to a high status among her other sisters, for she seemed to have the closest connection to Nise. It seemed she had finally settled into her role in the church when the Canoness summoned Niera and instructed her that shew as to leave the town and traverse the, world spread word of Nise, and bring pilgrims to the town. Niera was outon the road within a week, where she has been ever since.
