Description Sorcerer's tower on the left - I have an enchanting table setup there, as I'm typing this, I should probably sneak the nether portal somewhere in there too, I will probably spend hours spiraling a staircase down through the rock beneath the tower just to add something that will never be seen again, but that's just me... XD

Then you can see the two main walls stretching sideways from the main defensive wall, which actually has a really sweet interior with chandeliers and shit like that, I originally intended this to be the main cosy area of the castle, but then i thought it would be too easy to get a hold of the castle if the living area was so close to the entrance, so now I consider it a defensdive point inside out, but the chandeliers are still there, I spent too much time on them to tear them down, and they are functional, so...

The main wall has two levels for archers to shoot from, a lower level tucked away on the inside, protected from the elements, and one exposed, right behind the jagged edge of the wall.

There also is a shooting range and "to-be-training-ground" for men in arms right behind the main wall on the left side of the picture, and there is an intricate system of staircases and walkways behind the right half of the main wall, for people to get around and make different parts of the castle accessible on foot. There also is a platform thingy with a well somewhere back there, but I'm not sure whether it's visible or not, I only have a small picture to look at as I'm typing this XD

I also want to have a jousting place somewhere back there, I'll have to find a spot for it where people could watch this chivalrous event from an elevated area.

The owner of the castle would live in the tall towerhouse on the right, that's the last addition to this build. I was actually considering tearing the entire "block" down, it looked too plain and the surfaces were too big, but then i added the four lookout towers in the corners and the center "tower" to cap it off, and that helped immensely with integrating it into the build. I am now working on the interior of it, I am experimenting with archways and decorated cielings to add to the medieval feel of the inside and to emphasize the welth of the owner.

I am planning to have a storage area underneath the building in the right corner.

Also, I hate minecraft towers with ladders in them, so all towers in this castle have a propper staircase, with evenly spaced niches for torches in the walls. some are claustrophobic, some are quite spacious, but all the towers have staircases. There is not a single ladder used whatsoever. XD

The bridgetowers will probably be open on top defensive towers, even though I am debating putting roofs some of the towers in the back, but I am not sure yet.

I want this castle to be self- sufficient, so I will have to find a place for stables, inn/kitchen, smith and probably other craftsmen/providers, preferably inside the castle wall. I also want to fit a large-ish, but still moderately-sized church/cathedral in the far right corner, and probably a couple more towers in the back. I am debating wheether to add a farm section with lifestock and some modest field for crops on the inside of the wall, or whether this should be in tha plain on the other side of the river. I really want this castle to be self-sufficient, because my history class was full of castles getting starved into submission,. having the food outside the wall means no food when bad people come and burn all the things.... I am still uncertain how bold I want to be with the builds on the other side of the river where I'm planning to put a village eventually... or rather a small trading town with a rich district with a port for trading ships and houses of the merchants and nobility with a marker place, and then a poor district with small houses and fields and farms and craftsmen and things... the plain in question is not in view, because there is nothing there yet. XD

If you have any ideas for things I need to fit inside the castle wall, let me know in the comments, I can go quite a ways back to extend the castle towards the horizon. XD

I wanted to have a jail somewhere in there, and/or a medieval torture chamber, but I don't know where to put it, the only place where it would fit is under the main building on the right, which doesn't seem like that good of an idea actually, I already envisioned to have the storage area there, and I have a specific idea for the jail windows which I could not do there... so the only hopes for that is puting it in one of the back wall towers which are not in place yet.

i also wanted to sneak in a mine/quarry somewhere near by... I was thinking that the next time I am building a castle (I am a medieval/fantasy builder, I think vanilla minecraft lends itself for these sorts of builds, I am going to find a place with a nice ravine, have a mine there, with scaffolfing and stuff, maybe I should TNT a huge freaking chasm into the ground and have some fun with KABOOMing everything into smithereens, but I'll save this for the next time..., I have had enough TNT fun already, I had to custom-carve the river so the bridge actually makes sense... Yes, I actually built the entrance to the castle like twenty blocks above the ground, with the bridge extending into mid air... XD You can already see the town on the other side of the bridge is going to have a similar setup of "twin towers" with a bridge connecting to the castle. and there will be a moderately epic staircase leading up to it.

Over all, I quite like how tis castle is coming together, I only think I could have made it look much better if I actually knew what I was doing when I started... XD

It's quite an old build and many of the areas have been rebuilt several times, it doesn't have a solid style, as it became sort of a testing place for me, I am a kind of "build on the spot" builder, I have not made any plans whatsoever for this castle, it's also old as hell, I don't even remember when I started working on it and I have made little to no progress on it in the last months, because I lost inspiration.Β

I'm curious to see when I finish it though, if I ever finish it XDΒ

It doesn't matter whether I'm gonnal like the final result, it's been a good creative outlet and it helped me to become better in minecraft building, so I hope I'll be able to pull something a bit more structured and hopefuly more epic-looking the next time I decide to build something

enough pointless ranting XD

If you are specifically interested in seeing any particular part of this thing, let me know in the comments

glad you like it It's become more of a testing ground for my building ideas as time went on... XD you can see that in the clash of styles and themes... XD

I'm wondering what I could do if I actually made some planning before building shit XD I guess I'll have a chance to find out when I'm building the castle's church. I am reluctant to say cathedral, because I obviously don't want to build anything that's bigger than the rest of the castle XD But maybe even something large could work, It might act as a counterweight/counterpart of the huge towerhouse on the right, I want to have it in the far right corner, I think that's the best place for it, because the right side is where the sun rises. (This would be a view from the north I guess, right?) I am imagining you come inside in the morning, and have at least five or seven blocks wide walkway with a carpet maybe, the benches on the sides and you look forward and loong way ahead of you, you see the sun rising above the horizon through the windows on the opposite end of the church... it's gonna be epiiic! I have been to one castle chapel where the eastern windows were made of yellow glass to enhancethe effect of the sunrise. It was very atmospheric I am not religious in any sense, but I love the architecture and atmosphere of places like this. XD

Would this church use stained glass or regular glass?

This is impressive! Did you use a WorldEditor or just Vanilla Creative Mode?

That staircase bit is relatable, I also create structures that even I never see again, even in my survival worlds.

yeah, it's vanilla creative, I could use some "river brush" for this build, but TNT did the job... XD

I really want to do this floating island city thing inspired by an elder scrolls novel but im a lazy shit plus placing each individual block makes me think of jumping of a cliff

yeah, well, you have world edit and landscape brushes and stuff... for me, placing blocks is way easier than learning all that XD

That's awesome! Did you do it with an editor or did you actually place every block yourself?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to juniorWoodchuck [2014-03-02 00:05:58 +0000 UTC]

creative, but vanilla minecraft, no world edit or copy-pasting or stuff

juniorWoodchuck In reply to PeteriDish [2014-03-02 08:44:24 +0000 UTC]

Damn, that must have taken you forever to build!
I'm building a massive building like that on the mobile version but I'm using an editor for the stuff on my computer

I started in September 2013, with the giant cylindrical tower in the centre and then expanded sideways

That's awesome! Do you play on any servers I could join? it doesn't matter whether they are creative or survival, just so I have some new friends to play with, I don't have any local friends who play minecraft...

juniorWoodchuck In reply to PeteriDish [2014-03-02 09:19:26 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that didn't even take you that long!
Maybe you could add secret passages in the walls and secret rooms and behind some bookshelves... You could use pistons to retract them into the wall or something

Unfortunately, I've only got a demo version so I can't play online...but I'll let you know if I do get the full version.
(Which will probably happen soon since I want to play around with some mods)

PeteriDish In reply to juniorWoodchuck [2014-03-02 12:18:32 +0000 UTC]

all right, that would be awesome! secret rooms behind bookshelves sounds really awesome, why didn't i think of that? Thank you for the idea!

When/If you do try the mods, could you try the dragonmounts mod? I installed it, but it doesn't show the dragon spawn egg in the items, i must have done something wrong but I don't know what.

juniorWoodchuck In reply to PeteriDish [2014-03-02 21:10:17 +0000 UTC]

Fun fuct: I was once in a castle with secret passages behind bookshelves
Not so fun fact: I wasn't allowed to enter the passages

Sure, I'll do that
Maybe you could also use some magic-related mods such as witchery and thaumcraft for your castle

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to juniorWoodchuck [2014-03-03 12:33:22 +0000 UTC]

that's awesome! I think I have been to a castle where there were some secret passages/escape routes too, but I haven't been in there either. I don't know if the passages were behind bookshelves, or whether they were hidden in different furniture, but I completely forgot about this idea and never even thought about adding it in, if it weren't for you XD I also wanted to fit a decently-sized library somewhere in there, but I haven't found the right place for it yet. I finally decided that I want roofs on all the towers, and I will probably have to enlarge the existing towers on the back, hey look puny in comparison with the front.

I also got an idea for a hedge maze, but that would probably be more fitting for a chatteau with a park, not a defense-oriented building like this...

I might find a way how to sneak that in my next build, just writing it here so I don't forget XD

do you have any other suggestions on what I should/could include in a castle? I wanted to have a "hanging platform thingomabob" but that would probably be more fitting for the town outside the castle...

I don't have any other ideas of my own, except for the blacksmith, some other workshops, cattle sheds and stuff, I still don't have a place for a prison/dungeon/torture chamber ether

So much stuff to do! it's insane! XD And the absolute lack of plans or a general layout makes this even harder. I thoight I can just build it as I go on, but things have not been as easy as I thought XD

It definitely needs a dungeon, some stables and a bigΒ dining hallΒ

yeah, definitely! I've got lot's of empty rooms but I am not sure they're the right size to fit all the things! XD
