Description
PANTHER - concept of sci fi rifle.
Week ago I uploaded handgun ( peterku.deviantart.com/art/Pan… ). This rifle is meant to be pair with it. I imitated same design, material and color on both of them. One for short distance another for long.
Principe is also same. There are not projectiles at all. It is energy based device. Tech. characteristics I leave for your imagination. Feel free to build whole strory around it .
While doing on this I worked in 3ds max studio. Vray is rendering engine. Composition was done in Photoshop.
I did 2 pictures (Both of them are large enough to see details, when you open them in native resolution):
1.PANTHER Main: peterku.deviantart.com/art/PAN…
2.PANTHER Secondary: peterku.deviantart.com/art/PAN…
You tell me if it is good or not. My priority has been 3D work but functionality can be put in critique as well. Tnx for comments if any. Bye. P.

It is the best weapon art ever! (IMHO)
Brilliant job, awsome delicate modelling, nice textures.
Rifle looks very mightily and impressively.
As a human, who know a lot about weapons, I can write, that pattern is good, especially for battles in open.
Your arts always brilliant!
I have not anything to add (except "good job ", naturally), so i will writing rambling letters.

Vypadá to moc pěkně. Mám otázku, unwrapuješ to ? Jestli jo, tak jak dokážeš udělat unwrap tak highpoly modelu.. já nemužu ani označit všechny facy které potřebuju natož abych s tím dokázal pracovat.. ??

Cau. To robis zle. Vzdy unwrapuj zakladny model pred tym ako zneho spravis highpoly. Je blbost to robit az potom. Jednak narasta objem dat a uz to ani ten program nemoze stihat.

Just like the peterku.deviantart.com/art/Ort… ,I just commented on, the lines of this gun just make it look like a gaus or rail gun of some sort. That's not at all a bad thing, its just that means that it would be shooting a small pellet, and the bullets exit then would be all wrong. This gun looks like it has 3 long rails used for magnetic acceleration down the whole length of the gun, that means that the ammo supply would be located at the back as well, behind the trigger to reduce the gun's profile over all. That's my take on what I first take away from this at least. BUT this is probably an energy weapon of some sort, just gven the gun nozzle.
But on a general cirque, the grip, the trigger grip and all are too far back on the gun, they could be moved forward, letting the guns profile be reduced. Thats imporant, having more compact guns helps you stand out less in a combat situation, and almost any way of being less noticeable is very important in a fire fight, that's why the FN P90 is designed the way it is.
Over all it looks like some kind of S.W.A.T.T. weapon to me. Now this gun could easily become a futurist sniper rile in appearance too, and to do that, just increase the barrel length about 50%.

Sexy work. I'd add a folding bipod, to give it some extra form and function. I tried, and failed miserably, to model a rifle from cyberpunk, so I'm showing your work off to my friends.

WHOA!! Nasty Sweet! Excellent design! But its an "Energy Weapon?" Laser Blaster or Electron Glider hmmmm? Man if police had something like this crime would be exstinct in a year! Great artwork!

Dont know where you live my friend. But quality of police in my country is on level that I'm glad they dont have any scifi ones and most of them should be also set free from present ones.....

Your idea for a purely energy weapon is wonderful, it certainly looks robust and businesslike.
Would there be recoil, though? If the "bullet" is some particle or electromagnetic- spectrum bolt, would it be necessary to compensate for kickback? A projectile bolus of pure energy wouldn't need any more than a Star Trek-type phaser- style delivery vehicle, perhaps that's new.
Looking forward to seeing your next concept!

tnx man. I'm not physicist so I am not sure but I think every time you send "Signal" you get back-kick. how much depend on signal strentch. Even if you use wireless station then it is happen. It just far too weak to feel it.

If you use 3ds max 2010 or above, you can click the [+] symbol on the left corner of each viewport then select "show staticts" (I guess). Now you can check how many polys and verticals of your model

I know that feature but what is representatives number. Number of polys of basic mesh or number of polys on mesh after smooth feature applied...

then how many polys after using smooth modifier?

you in your program would have to probably make lowpoly version and baking of highpoly textures but in 3ds max rendering time is not affected by number of polygons. I mean 70.000 or 700.000 does not make big difference. definitely less then 10 percent. Much bigger influence is material definition and type and quality of lights....

I mean my PC pretty sucks, when I import a highpoly model (about 50K polys) in my viewport, it's lag as hell so I can't do animation as well. Yes rendering is still alright, I don't have any problem with that.

I don't know anything about guns, but from a purely aesthetic perspective this is an absolutely stunning design. Very sleek and realistic.
(To be perfectly honest, I thought it was a real gun until I read your description. Fantastic job!)

Ilove it. It looks really nice and solid, which is what you expect from any kind of energy-based weapon. Only question would be is there provision for a bipod? Also, the butstock seems a bit thin, or does the rifle inherently have low recoil?

I use word "energy" to be more free in design. So I dont have to follow construction of present pieces..... and you have right. it calls for some bipod....
