Description So this is Mirielle , flat-colored this time, but not shaded.

I started drawing her some months ago, and she languished awhile and actually changed species a couple of times; and then I finished off enough of her this morning that she'd be presentable. She's still a work-in-progress, and I gotta definitely do something about those hands, but it's been a long time since I updated here, so here she is, demonstrating that a spider can, in fact, be cute and sexy. Pink is definitely her color.

And I still don't know her backstory, but I'm sure it's interesting.

She's greeting a friend, maybe?

Perhaps, the last time the friend saw Mirelle, Mirelle was human?

"WHHHAAAAAA???!!"

"Calm down and let me explain...It's OKAY...REALLY!"

Can she make webs?

Um... probably? I dunno. Most spiders can.

Rufina-Tomoyo In reply to phantom-inker [2008-10-19 19:42:48 +0000 UTC]

Well, there are basically two kinds of spiders. Some use webs and others have more "proactive" methods of hunting. If she actually has the size of a human, I doubt that could be a spiderweb enough big to support her, but she could have the hability to make something like a lasso.

Heh... I just imagined her in country-and-western clothing using her lasso to rope down runaway cows

She's a lovely Dridder.

I really like the colours you used for her body. The pink makes her look very attractive.

I thought so too. I ought to shade this when I get the time.

Wow, that's absolutely amazing! The anatamy is fantastic!

Are you planning on shading it? I think it would really look brilliant...

I've considered shading it. We'll see how much time I have.

People often underestimate just how cute spiders can be, like jumping spiders with their fuzzy bodies and big bright eyes.

But attach a pretty elf to it and they're bound to notice the intrinsic beauty.

Awesome work! (Maybe work on the hands a little )
Like the eyes and by the way what type of spider was this model after? It looks like a widow but i can't be sure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

phantom-inker In reply to ericnthered123 [2008-10-01 17:02:56 +0000 UTC]

No particular type: She was modeled in my imagination, born and bred there, and has little bearing on reality. If she looks like any specific species to you, that's in your imagination

And yes, the hands are, as is often true with my art, suckadelic. If I ever get more time to work on this, I may improve them a bit.

BryanD [2008-09-30 01:18:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I know what her story is. She was a typical bloodthirsty dark elf sorceress, she failed Lloth's test, and so she decided in revenge to reject every trace of her drow heritage. So she went to live on the surface world and become as adorable and friendly as possible.

Even for a drider she's adorable! I never would thought pink would work for a drider tho. . . I guess I was wrong!

phantom-inker In reply to Blazbaros [2008-10-01 17:04:26 +0000 UTC]

I think just about any color can work for just about any skin or hair or fur on any species, but then maybe I've just been watching too much anime

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blazbaros In reply to phantom-inker [2008-10-01 17:17:49 +0000 UTC]

Well whatever works! If they have crazy-ass colour hair, let them have it! I just doesn't work very well in real life. . .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

phantom-inker In reply to Blazbaros [2008-10-15 20:36:36 +0000 UTC]

No, sadly, it doesn't, but somehow anime can make "naturally pink" seem normal.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blazbaros In reply to phantom-inker [2008-10-15 22:36:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, if you don't have a wacky hair colour, you're not cool in anime.

Thanks, Anne, I'm glad you like her! Driders never get too much lovin' from the public, so I'm always glad to see people liking them.

Of course, I have to factor in that you like everything

GREGOLE [2008-09-29 18:05:27 +0000 UTC]

Ok, there's simply no other way to say it. This blows my mind.

In my opinion, few things are sexier than drider-girls. VERY few things. And this is living proof.
Such balance, such attention to the beautiful, sensual side of spiders.... it's simultaneously exotic and alluring, while also give a big fat "fuck you" to cliche.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

phantom-inker In reply to GREGOLE [2008-09-29 18:39:49 +0000 UTC]

That's kinda what I thought when I was drawing it. Driders are almost always creepy or violent; it's incredibly rare to see them portrayed as "normal" or "cute." Mirielle's body language here says, point blank, I'm a spider, I'm sexy, and I know it. It's a shame there isn't more artwork that depicts them like this.

I tend to prefer breasty brunettes, but a leggy-leggy pinkette isn't too bad.

phantom-inker In reply to tomjhyde [2008-09-29 17:01:14 +0000 UTC]

Artificer-Urza [2008-09-29 16:54:00 +0000 UTC]

Pink is nice, but isn't red more of a spider's colour?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

phantom-inker In reply to Artificer-Urza [2008-09-29 17:00:18 +0000 UTC]

Red probably is more of a traditional spider color, but I still think that pale pink looks best on her.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GREGOLE In reply to phantom-inker [2008-09-29 18:03:47 +0000 UTC]

Actually, there are quite a few pink spiders in nature. Though I can't say I've ever heard of a specifically red species.

phantom-inker In reply to GREGOLE [2008-09-29 18:35:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what color this is; it looks to be somewhere between pink and magenta, but it's definitely in the right spectrum, and shows pinkish shades are legitimate.
