Description
IT IS HUUGE
Some of you have been asking on how I do the gloss for my charms, so I decided to do a full tutorial on how I make plastic charms!
I use the Shrink Plastic made for printing on. (ITS THIS ONE:
[link] ) I get mine at Michaels (somewhere around the Scrap Booking sections) (if your outside the US I don't know where you can get them, sorry ;^; )
If you have any questions that aren't already explained, just ask!!

I'm sorry if this has already been asked but I was wondering how you put the embossing powder on the plastic? Do you use a brush or do you just pour it on? What's the best way of getting it on the plastic? Thanks so much for answering! x3

^^ Since its pouder just pour it on. I always place it on a piece of paper so that way I can take the excess and pour it back into the bottle with the paper after transferring the charms (carefully!) to the oven ^^

have you ever tried the shrink plastic that has more of a frosted shape? I want to use it but im scared that it will still be frosted once in the oven. you cant print it but i heard you can copy on to it D: i dont know how that works, but the lady worker at michaels gave me that once since they didnt have the printing one 3 I dont want to put 10 bucks into waste!

My shrink art thingy done exactly what ya said. Starts curling up and straightens back out but its still abit bumpy? I cant seem to get it properly straight, i tired to take it out when its still warm but i ended up breakin it and it cools right after i take it out? Help? ~

PhantomCarnival In reply to Kat-Chan1994 [2010-10-25 03:23:48 +0000 UTC]
When you take it out to straighten it with a book it has to still be SUPER hot, not just slightly warm. (Its why I caution about burning yourself )

the detail clear it's what use it in acrylic nails right?
and i got another question: do you put the detail clear when the charm its already shink, then put it again in the oven?? O:
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
PhantomCarnival In reply to Hikaru9u9 [2010-07-27 19:26:35 +0000 UTC]
Nope! Its the kind you use with stamps and scrapbooking.
you shrink the charm, then put the powder on, and put it back in the oven

FAVORITE
i've been doing shrinky dinks since i was a kid so i understand most of this but i have a question...
after making a shrinky dink, one side comes out smooth and shiny, the other stays rough
does the embossing powder make that rough side smooth and shiny too???
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
PhantomCarnival In reply to koooanikaa [2010-07-07 02:56:50 +0000 UTC]
Yes! Glossy smooth <3 (and makes the colors look better too)
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
koooanikaa In reply to PhantomCarnival [2010-07-07 03:07:05 +0000 UTC]
oh ok, THANKS
so it makes BOTH sides of the charm glossy smooth?
i just wanted to make sure before i bought it
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
PhantomCarnival In reply to koooanikaa [2010-07-07 19:50:38 +0000 UTC]
Your welcome!
Its almost impossible to put it on both sides! (i.e. Have one side with the gloss, if you were to turn it over and powder the back the front will melt again and get stuck to what you put it on!) But the back should be glossy anyway

koooanikaa In reply to PhantomCarnival [2010-07-08 00:46:40 +0000 UTC]
OH OKAY, thanks
i already know that one side will be shiny

Wow. It looks good. I have been thinking about using shrinking plastic when I FINALLY start my store. I want to sell necklaces but will probably not because I will be using zazzle as my store. I like how the charm finally turs out SHINY!

I don't really know anywhere online, but you can google Embossing Powder and you should be able to find some

I recently started making the charm again, and for some reason, I'm having more trouble with it warping. They never seem to come out straight or close perfectly shaped or even flat. Do you have any tips on how I can improve this?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
PhantomCarnival In reply to DumblyDoor [2010-05-25 01:40:41 +0000 UTC]
Sure! Before you put anything on it (when you first bake it) When it comes out of the oven, and while its STILL HOT Smash it with a book X3 (Make sure its something you dont like, like a math book or something XD) But make sure you havn't put anything on the charm just yet (like the embossing powder) or it will ruin it!
Hope that helps!

Also, I have also experienced when I have put the embossing powder on in the oven, it starts to warp a bit again. Do you have any tips for that?

PhantomCarnival In reply to DumblyDoor [2010-05-25 02:35:50 +0000 UTC]
no..sorry ;__; Thats one of the problems I had too....worked a little better if you put it in at a lower temperature for a longer time.

how big is your holepunch? and does the hole shrink when it's baked?

just a regular school sized hole punch
Yes, but usually still big enough for metal rings to pass through

This is a great tutorial *__* But I just have one question- when exactly do you put the powder stuff on the charm? before you stick it in the oven, or when it starts to warp?
