Description
IT IS HUUGE

Some of you have been asking on how I do the gloss for my charms, so I decided to do a full tutorial on how I make plastic charms!
I use the Shrink Plastic made for printing on. (ITS THIS ONE:
[link] ) I get mine at Michaels (somewhere around the Scrap Booking sections) (if your outside the US I don't know where you can get them, sorry ;^; )

If you have any questions that aren't already explained, just ask!!

XD Sorry for not being clear on that XD
You put it on after the charm has been baked

skresnow In reply to PhantomCarnival [2010-04-20 21:50:55 +0000 UTC]

but how does that make it melt? D:

PhantomCarnival In reply to skresnow [2010-04-20 22:36:27 +0000 UTC]

then you put it back into the oven when you put the powder on

skresnow In reply to PhantomCarnival [2010-04-21 01:30:20 +0000 UTC]

but you dont turn the oven on again?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomCarnival In reply to skresnow [2010-04-21 02:39:00 +0000 UTC]

^^ Yes, you turn the oven back on
I'll try to explain the steps a little easier:

Cut out the charm
Place it in oven, cook til small (and flat)
Put powder on it after you take it out (careful! hot!)
Place it back into the oven and turn it on (This way the powder will melt into a clear plastic)
Take it out when its cooled off

PhantomCarnival In reply to Xyiphyte [2010-04-17 07:44:49 +0000 UTC]

Xyiphyte In reply to PhantomCarnival [2010-04-17 17:23:39 +0000 UTC]

Okay because at micheals it said there was water than you had to apply with it...but i guess just the powder?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomCarnival In reply to Xyiphyte [2010-04-17 18:26:32 +0000 UTC]

If its embossing powder there shouldnt be any water that goes with it (the powder is just plastic that melts)

PhantomCarnival In reply to Xyiphyte [2010-04-18 20:25:35 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, It wouldnt really matter as long as they are clear, but if its more of a crystal (like salt) then a powder (like flour) It does tend to be a little foggy

I was wondering how thick this came out to be

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomCarnival In reply to DreaChu [2010-04-08 21:49:51 +0000 UTC]

Ahniki In reply to ??? [2010-03-21 03:47:22 +0000 UTC]

I've got a question! >.<
How exactly do you uncurl them when they start getting all warped? D:

*Do you use your fingers? or the back of a spoon.. lol*

Do you remove them from the toaster oven right away? Or do you wait until they are completely finished shrinking to uncurl them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomCarnival In reply to Ahniki [2010-03-26 03:27:21 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes they curl because they're not done all the way.
I would suggest not using your fingers, thats how you get burnt lol. (Thats how I have)

What I do (If they dont have the clear stuff on it yet) I take it out right away and smash it with a book! C:< (Make sure its your math book or something, lol) BUT If you DO have the clear powder melted on it it will ruin the book and your charm ;__;

If they start to curl with the clear powder on it, its extreemly hard to make them straight again. Try using some tinfoil under it in a curve so that it can possible shape back.

Hope that helps!

(BTW I have a question for you! X3 How do you put backgrounds in your extra boxes on your account?)

PhantomCarnival In reply to Phaiyle [2010-01-10 20:53:23 +0000 UTC]

thanks!
It was in the scrapbooking section, near stamps and such Its an embossing powder. You use it after you use a stamp, then put the powder on it and heat it with a heatgun. it becomes solid and embossed X3 *that might help if you need to ask*
