Description
IT IS HUUGE
Some of you have been asking on how I do the gloss for my charms, so I decided to do a full tutorial on how I make plastic charms!
I use the Shrink Plastic made for printing on. (ITS THIS ONE:
[link] ) I get mine at Michaels (somewhere around the Scrap Booking sections) (if your outside the US I don't know where you can get them, sorry ;^; )
If you have any questions that aren't already explained, just ask!!

Its a type of plastic, so no, unless you leave it in there for hours
The shrinking is because of the plastic it is. The heat causes partials in the plastic to shrink. The gloss is a powder that when melted becomes clear.

You usually get it at craft stores *like Micheals* and sometimes in the scrapbooking or word embossing section *you can always ask a clerk *

Um, do you still have to cover the back too? I mean, if you do cover the back what will happen to the front of your product? Won't it get ruin?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
PhantomCarnival In reply to Kryslie26 [2009-11-17 12:55:11 +0000 UTC]
If theres nothing on the back theres no need to cover it ^^
and yes, the emboss powder would melt and ruin the front

But I do know of double sided shrink plastic that you can print on, but there isnt any real way to seal it (unless you use a spray or clear nail polish)
I would love to see it!!

thankyou so much for the awesome tutorial! :3
i just recently got into making plastic charms and stuff and i found your tutorial so helpful!
i bought some ebossing powder from my local crafty store so i'm going to try it out! (i tried some glossy stuff and it made the image smudge and look yucky )

^__^ ohh i'll be sure to show you once i make some really good ones.
i have a question though, i cut them out and put them in the oven and they cooked fine ^_^ they shrunk and they were done.. so i put the embossing powder on one of the little loveheart charms i made
it worked fine ^_^ the embossing powder melted onto the little heart and then when i took the heart out i realised that i couldn't smack it down with a book to make sure it cools straight because it would stick D:
so my heart dried curled up a little bit on the sides! ;x
is there any particular method you use so that your charms turn out flat?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
PhantomCarnival In reply to SqueakyToybox [2009-11-10 20:25:21 +0000 UTC]
Yea I get that sometimes too.
The oven is probably not hot enough to make the plastic stay maluable. I get that problem too :\

SqueakyToybox In reply to PhantomCarnival [2009-11-10 22:35:53 +0000 UTC]
ohhh hmm!
well maybe the only way i can think of is to wait until the charm is hard and cool.. and put some embossing powder on it and cook it again and hopefully it will stay straight? D: hehe
the embossing powder looks really awesome though - so shiny & it feels nice too ^-^

thank you so much for this. Normally in all the shrink paper tutorials I've seen no one has talked about size which I happen to find to be an important factor. You don't want a newbie to jump into doing this without knowing how the size is gonna come out thank you
and your cat charm was uber cute

I agree, its so irritating to me to do the math, and since the shrink paper isnt cheap and if your on a low budget its difficult to lose paper to that.
