Description
IT IS HUUGE
Some of you have been asking on how I do the gloss for my charms, so I decided to do a full tutorial on how I make plastic charms!
I use the Shrink Plastic made for printing on. (ITS THIS ONE:
[link] ) I get mine at Michaels (somewhere around the Scrap Booking sections) (if your outside the US I don't know where you can get them, sorry ;^; )
If you have any questions that aren't already explained, just ask!!

I kinda know absolutely nothing about how to make all kinds of charms, I kinda just started my interest when I saw all your cute stuff
I want to use shrink plastic, polymer clay, resin, and I want to know what the heck faux silicone whipped cream is ! I see people saying that they use it but not where they get it, what it looks like in its container, so I can use it, or how they use it :/. Lots of secrets
I want to do this stuff but I dont know where to start and what to use, and how to use it. Please teach me what you can!!!
man, I tire myself out
I think im getting shrink plastic today, If I color on it with sharpie markers and color pencils, do I color it before or after baking it?

Very nice tutorial and that charm is so cute! I plan to try it out on making some plastic charms
I have been planning to make a friend of mine some small charms for her birthday on the 20th but I didn't want to go about laminating them (their so small and lamination is nice but I think with the size of the charm and all it might not go to well) and plastic would work nice.
I love Micheal's I just never knew about this type of stuff in my local store. I'll have to ask about it so I can get some to make it.
Is the plastic like the one stuff you draw on and shrink or does it have a specific name? As with the powder, are there any names you can give for them? XD I think it's find it easier to have a brand name when I go searching.
And lastly; the oven - can it be a regular old oven?
Sorry for so many questions

Well, the shrink plastic is commonly known as Shrinky Dinks.
The powder is regular Embossing powder *mine doesnt really have a brand on it, it just says Embossing XDD* Its used with a heat gun *will probably be in the same section*
Yea! I've cooked and used them in the same oven...and I havn't gotten ill off of it. Some people may not want to in fear of fumes
Its ok!

pure cuteness!
still I didn't understand... what did you print it on? some sort of special paper?
and where can I get that detail clear
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
PhantomCarnival In reply to Onigiri-Freak [2009-08-24 12:48:49 +0000 UTC]
Thank you ^^
Its a special plastic sheet that shrinks when you bake it (often reffered to as shrinky dink)
The detail clear you can get in the section of embossing powders

girlunderwater In reply to ??? [2009-08-23 02:39:19 +0000 UTC]
Where do you get the clear stuff? I've been using Modge Podge but it tends to come out just sticky enough that charms stick together and to paper and ruin them, so this clear stuff sounds like a much better alternative! Also, do you put it on both sides or just the "rough" side?

PhantomCarnival In reply to girlunderwater [2009-08-23 10:12:53 +0000 UTC]
Its Embossing powder. You can get it by the heat guns and such
Just do one side (the side with the image) Because I would melt again if you do the other side, and stick to whatever is underneath!

Its embossing powder. I get it in the same isle as the shrink plastic, but it might be in a different area for yours. Just ask someone that works there where it would be ^^

It's a great tutorial, but I kinda like plastic charm creations being all top secret. Now I know how it's done and it's not as cool. I REALLY see disaster happening. People might start stealing more and selling crap easier. =/ That's what scares me.
Anyway, great tutorial.

PhantomCarnival In reply to Lady-Callie [2009-08-23 10:16:42 +0000 UTC]
Thanks ^^
Yea...I understand. But the secret has been out for awhile and simple searches you can find how-to's. I personally see it as other people having a new medium to do work in. I would love to see what other people make with this.
Its really hard to not have something stolen, everyone thats an artist in my family has had atleast 3 or more great pieces stolen of theirs. I really wish it wouldn't happen but it does

How sweet
It's great how I can see two craft makers perspective on making shrink plastic charms(:
Wow, that detail clear stuff is really cool;A; Is that at Micheal's as well?
And those charms are looking adorable;DXD
Should you have a separate toaster oven just for shrink charms?

^_^ Thankies
Yea, its embossing powder. Same isle as the shrinking plastic for me
Umm, I would say yes mainly because I don't really know if theres any toxic fumes or anything, but I havn't died/gotten sick yet so it should be fine lol
