Emo is a love of darkness,
But always needing some light.
Emo is the way you look,
But more the way you are.
Emo is resisting the world
Because you can't stand routine.
Emo is loving everyone you know,
Even if sometimes you wish they didn't exist.
Emo is hurting yourself or your body
When deep down you really love them both.
Emo is making your own choices,
While relying on your friends to make it through.
But really, emo is not caring how fucked up you are,
Cause there are so many friends just as fucked up as you.
Emo isn't hate.
Emo is love.

Very true, that is what it was originally defined as... but it has also come to be a cultural movement defined by certain ideas and clothing (and whatnot). These are the kind of thoughts and feelings many people I've known who think of themselves as "emo" have. It's sort of just an observational bit, I suppose.

This makes sense I guess. It's just that some people have taken to labeling certain things as Emo and it kind of bothers me. I mean, there are people out there who truely think that because they don't cut themselves or aren't depressed, they aren't "fully emo." And there are people out there that think if you do cut yourself or are depressed then you're emo. It sort of takes the seriousness out of the situation when it is thought of as such a fad.

I definitely agree with everything above^_^ It's a really odd word that people are constantly fighting over the true meaning of, complete with flame-wars... but really, it's pretty much whatever one decides they want it to be. So, it's pretty much meaningless except on an individual level.

I didn't mean for it to seem like I say all "emos" cut. I said that "emo is hurting yourself OR your body," OR being the key word. Not everyone who thinks of themselves as emo cuts, obviously.
