Yeah, the Super Bowl is on this day. I was working on this pic a few days leading up to this event.
It's Team Mario vs. Team DK
Donkey Kong runs straight through Mario's linemen (which are Toads). Donkey Kong is pretty much too big to be stopped by the linemen as he heads for the end zone with Mario in pursuit. But then he abducts Referee Pauline on the way, causing Referee Rosalina to throw a yellow flag.
notes:
-I was going to draw some additional characters in there (such as Funky Kong, and some more common DK characters), but I got lazy.
-This is probably the second time I drew Mario and DK.
-First time drawing Diddy Kong (he doesn't look quite right though...)
-First time drawing a Gnawty from the DK series
-I had originally used the same color for the football field, but since Team DK's team colors almost match, I had to brighten the field a bit...
-This experience is the reason Referee Pauline wants to avoid Team DK's games
-Similar Nintendo-related American Football pics of the past...

That's unsportsmanlike conduct; Donkey Kong should be disqualified (ejected from the game). The (fictional) Nintendo Football League should fine him 1,000,000 bananas, ban his team from the entire preseason, and suspend him for the first four games of the regular season.
