Haven't done one of these in a while!
I think it shows more how my style has changed, then how my characters changed, but oh well!
I made the anime line to show here I started getting into Digital Painting and doing anatomy studies!
I kind of dropped my Anime style when I realized all of my characters were turning into Bishies.
I have nothing against Anime Style in general... but one could say it was my own stylistic trap I had to escape to further develop my characters..
The rest is self explanatory.
And as before mentioned, Yaz's personality started at his crazy phase. Before, he was just. How do I put this?
TOO NICE. and TOO LUCKY.
He just chucked swords at people and saved the day.
....Yeah.
Then he would do that Naruto pose.
Kaisae.... Yeah. I built up his character into the best mary sue character ever. Seriously. But he was so perfect had tons of wives, was apparently a super model and had tons of sports cars.
Then it dawned on me he was a sue so I scrapped his entire design and he was never quite as handsome.
I also redid his backstory and made him more feminine.
I dreamed up Nova in a dream once and thought he was a good guy. He was a boring good guy, so I made him evil.
Then made his species alien like.
Then made him more special.
It was a good recipe.
On another note I haven't shown it but Nova is more "human" than he was last year. He actually has moral compass.... in there somewhere.
Sato...
Heh.
Well he never actually changed.
But each drawing reflects how my different styles handled

l-lol, it's actually the most fun seeing which of them has gone on the wildest rollercoaster ride.
although it's kinda hard to top being RIP, hmm...
But the creative journey has certainly been fun to observe! 'specially in regards to Nij/Yaz/Nova [/because i'm biased]

The anime was veeeery strong. I mean Yaz's original concept was "a cooler demon version of sasuke with white hair" nothing gets more shameful than that!

Whaaaat, Kaisae isn't immortal or made out of metal anymore? When did this happen, is it plot related or a change in his character? (Haven't been on dA for awhile so I clearly missed something?)
Reading about Kaisae having many wives is hilarious. I like the current one much better. This was very fun to read in general.
This could be a lot of fun if I did one, or rather, it would be fun to explain where some of my own characters came from, since I don't have many examples or old old drawings, it would go back at least 11 years.

Nahh. It is most definitely a plot related change.
I noticed from some roleplaying I did with Kaisae that he was really... too overpowered. He's strong but he most definitely should be able to fail.
Making him human was an awesome way to up the stakes.
Haha I was too inspired by the animes with old Kaisae. He was so attractive he got all the fangirls.

That could be an interesting character arc, and awkward moments about coping with the new human body is a great opportunity for comedy gold!

Haha... for sure! I will admit some of the older versions had appeal. Sometimes I recycle those elements.
But for the most part they've all grown a lot and I'm come to understand all of them more.

It's honestly very hard to tell sometimes. Also I realize Ibara's name ends in an 'A'... which is confusing.

I really really like seeing evolution of characters and holy crap I love the recent stages you've gotten to with them, especially Kaisae, Nova, and Yaz. And I already loved their designs before. Yaz had a pretty big shift but his face is still so...him.

Yeah it looks like Yaz changed a lot, and I suppose his personality changed too. But he's always been a hyperactive sunshine boy to me.

Ibara is, without a doubt, my most functional character ever. He just works.
In the story, in his design, in his abilities. He just does!

There was a year where I hated everything about my art so I ditched my anime style
And it was scary because I had no idea what I was doing at all and everything looked bad.

I've looked back at it recently and the real thing I noticed about the Anime style is that it's a abbreviation of realism! You know, like the nose is just a line...
And so if you draw anime without studying real life, you wouldn't know how to draw a real nose because you've been taking a short cut the whole time!
I'm sure artists that study life, yet keep their anime style, are still pretty good because they have that knowledge!
(Also, can I say Anime was the only style I could do in the past and I kind of got stuck in it xD)
