Description My senior project/senior art portfolio is going to be a concept for a video game, currently titled "Night Terrors".

You control a man who wakes up in a deranged hospital with no memory as to how he got there, you encounter many gruesome and disturbing nightmares and have run-ins with Morpheus, the god of dreams.

This one is a concept for an enemy called Needle Nose, which is basically a walking syringe.

Just wanted to know if you had any thoughts/suggestions, as this is going to be very important for my art career.

EDIT: Fixed composition and added cast shadows.

Reminds me of one of the mechs from MGS4. I haven't played it, so I don't know what their names are.

I think you have a great future in the art industry honestly. I think that the theme is good, and that the concept is awesome! Your style is truly yours and I say don't make any drastic changes with it because it really defines who you are as an artist.

Most people have a fear of syringes, don't know why.

because there is this thin metal object about to peice your skin..and its so thin that it looks like it could snap off inside..or sometimes its just so big that you know its gonna hurt like a bitch..

Great lighting man, love how you did the transparent material.

Most of this was done in illustrator, even the transparency effects. I t was fun!

It's not creepy enough for a horror game, I would say. I think it's actually cute (and I DESPISE needles)
Of course I don't know what it'll look like in-game - it might be terrifyingly creepy

The atmosphere and ambience is going to be everything. A creepy atmosphere can make creatures infinitely more menacing and scary.

And for some reason, I thought that people on dA would find this creature cute, but anyone else wouldn't. And this isn't the creepiest creature in the game, this is going to be one of the most basic enemies. I've made tons more designs for other enemies that are far more creepy and surreal than this one.

Yeah, the setting does make a big difference, and the ambience
Apparently, I'm your target audience ^^

I agree with lukedenby - his nose is a little too close to the edge of the picture. Also, the vanishing point/ground might need to be a little more defined. But it looks awesome!

Yeah, I'm going to fix that. And I should fix the background a little, although I was going for a surreal look. Thanks sis!

Interesting character, for someone with a fear of needles (Not me BTW) it would be one heck of an enemy to fight.

Or even for someone without the fear of needles.

looks good, but his posture ain't very intimidating

Phobos-Romulus In reply to ridleysghost [2010-04-23 01:46:39 +0000 UTC]

True. But it's more of a concept than a finished piece.

When it chases you in the game, I'm going to have it run like a velociraptor.

this is more of a composition type thing but the needle tip seems a little too close to the edge
