Description A true warrior shouldn’t rely on the strength of his arms or the superiority of his skills. He fights not to kill, but to protect. He shouldn’t rely on power either, because power can corrupt men, He-.

“What a load of crap, it just stops there; looks as if part of it caught fire for an unknown reason. And what the hell should I do with this uncut gem?” the boy wondered.

So is this the treasure grandfather was talking about, a worn out piece of paper, and an uncut gem? I just don’t get it, how will this help me get stronger? What a complete waste of time, I risked my life just for a stupid box containing this worthless junk. Heck, it’s not even enough to help start a fire, and this box looks like it’s 60 times as old as me, it’s definitely nothing of value. But maybe I can still sell this off as scrap metal. And from what I’ll get, I could hire a gem cutter and have this gem polished, and I could sell it for a reasonable price and eat well tonight.

“Hi there.” A girl said disturbing the boy’s thoughts as she sat down beside him.

A girl suddenly appeared out of the blue and sat down by his side. She seems different from the other children he has met during his travel. She had a gentle face, unlike those children who went to those schools with high fences that always teased him whenever he watched them eat outside. She’s also prettier compared to the other little girls he has seen.

“What do you want?” the boy said rudely.

“Can you play with me?” the girl smiled.

“Go away; can’t you see I’m busy?”

“But you’re just lying there doing nothing.”

“I’m thinking, now go away.”

“So, what are you thinking of?” the girl asked.

The boy suddenly noticed something; the girl had red eyes, the same red eyes the man his grandfather introduced to him a couple of years ago had.

“Thinking of a way to get rid of you.” The boy said rather coldly as he turned away from the girl’s gaze.

“Can we be friends?” the girl asked.

“No, we can’t be friends. So why don’t you run along and go play with your ‘other’ friends.”

“But I don’t have any.” The girl said sadly.

“Then go away.” The boy said dismissively.

“Why are you being so mean to me?”

“Because I want to, now shoo.” The boy said as he got up and collected his things.
“I said go away, damnit!!”

“Why does everyone hate me?” The girl suddenly sobbed.

“Oh no, don’t cry.”

“Why wouldn’t I? No one wants to be my friend, cuz they say I look like a witch, and whenever I’m around something bad happens.”

“Well…err…you’re here with me, and nothing bad happened.”

But the girl kept on crying.

“Would you please stop crying?” The boy persuaded as he knelt down beside the girl.

“I’ll cry if I want to.” The girl sobbed.

“C’mon, you’re making me look bad.”
“Hey, do you want to see a neat trick?” the boy said as he picked a nearby stalk of grass and blew on it. It made a strange whistling sound that caught the attention of the girl.

“How did you do that?” the girl said as she wiped the tears off her eyes.

“It’s simple, you just need one of these.” The boy said as he picked another stalk of grass.

“Then what do I do with it?” the girl said taking the stalk from the boy.

“Put it between your lips and blow.”

“Like this?” the girl said putting the stalk between her lips.

“Now blow.”

The girl blew gently on the stalk. It made a funny whistling noise which made both children smile.

“Hey! I can do it!” The girl smiled.

“Do you also want to know a secret?”
“Tell me.” The girl said eagerly.

“Did you know that little grass whistle can actually call the wind.”

“Is that true?” the girl mused in amazement.

“Yeah, it works every time.”

“Can I try to call the wind?”

“Sure.”

As the girl blew on the stalk several times, the wind suddenly picked up and rose to a full breeze.

“It works!”
“So does this mean I can be your friend?”

“Of course.” The boy smiled.

“So can I know your name?”

“It’s Levant.”

“So what’s yours?”

“It’s Yuuki.”

The boy’s stomach suddenly growled, reminding him that he hasn’t eaten for the past four days.

“Sorry bout that.”

“You’re funny you know?” the girl giggled.
“Maybe you should come with me, my uncle’s a pretty good cook.” She added as she pulled the boy’s arm.

“Well, err, I am pretty hungry.”

“So pack your things and lets go.” The girl smiled.

“So what happened next?” a man said.

“She took me to her uncle’s inn and we had supper. Her uncle then recognized the gem.”

“Hey old man, do you know how much this is worth?” the boy said as he placed the rough gem on the table

“Where’d you get that gem, boy?” the innkeeper said beckoning to the gem the boy placed on top of the table.

“I found it a box lodged under a tree in a mountain not too far from here.”

“Do you mind if I examine it?”

“Sure.” The boy said as he gave the gem to the innkeeper.

“Ah yes, the core of a dragon’s heart, I haven’t seen this for quite some time now.” The innkeeper smiled as he gave the gem back to the boy?

“Eh? Is that really, a dragon’s core?”

“Yes, didn’t you know?”

“No, I thought those things didn’t exist.”

“They do, and they’re very powerful.”

“I know, but are you sure this is a real dragon core, old man?”

“Call me Remus.”
“…and I ‘m pretty sure because I was the previous owner of that core your holding.” Remus added.”
“And you must be Levant, Reto’s grandchild.”

“Yes, but how did you know.”

“Simple, you look an awful lot like your grandfather when he was your age.” The innkeeper smiled.
