Oh, but I love it here
This masquerade.
The women spoil themselves
On sweet, red wine
While the men shove
Black cigars in their mouths.
A lively bunch, you see
For they talk amongst themselves
About one another;
Drunken and amused.
Who killed who?
In the cold fog of the night
That bloody scene
Within the streets of our hometown.
This has become a place
For murderers
To hide amongst the innocent
Waiting for their next victim.
Who had an affair with who?
She who had sex with another man
In her husband's own home and bed.
He hasn't the slighest clue.
This has become a place
Of unfortunate secrets
Which cannot be undone
Even through the course of time.
Oh, how I love this
Masquerade.
Hide your face so that
The person you talk about won't realize...
That it's you

I like how you add the "hide your face" that reminds me of the masquerade song from POTO. Great picture too...pretty good for writers block. The subject isn't inspiring, but the style is. A good poem (that doesn't rhyme! My fav!) and the rhythm sort of fits the subject. The other, grittier, dirtier side of the upper class coin, as it were.
