Description
Well, nailed it - I couldn't keep my hands off this for a week, spent some time yesterday trying out a couple of ideas, like trying to light the scene via the monitors. It can work but tends to work against seeing the reflections. I also have solution to the "lounge chair" problem...posted this: and there it was: 's really cool Faceted Hemisphere Chair Freebie:
I already had it - but had to use the obj file. I came up with some decent textures, and while it doesn't looks as cool as in the images here, I like it. This is the view from inside.
However - as one might expect - this really drove the render time up. The image above took over 2 hours. Kind of limits what I can do with this as an animation.
But still fun to try.

I was a bit confused at first...So the camera is inside the glass chair?
..... What about replacing the glass in the chair with a reflective metal, then you'd end up with a "James Bondesque" gun barrel effect (without the hassle of transparency)
I see from the pic that PoSer renders reflected dynamic hair, I can't do that unless I use raytraced lighting (which takes hours)...So it's not too bad a prog after all!

Yup! Basically the point of view of someone who is sitting in that chair.
In fact, I'll note it later, but this morning I discovered putting a layer of "glass" in front of the display is redundant and actually counter productive. I rebuilt the prop with just one plane and simply added reflection to that.

Me too, thanks. I've played with the render settings and I can still get decent quality with a 5-20 minute render (depending on the raytraces). Could happen.

Good use of perspective—and saving the render hit. That chair can be a beast for render times

Thanks - yeah, the chair does take a bit of time - I used an "Auto Glass" texture I had for the glass sections. Surprisingly, the displays really slow things down - and those are just screen shots (you might recognize part of what is "behind" on the right display). Then again the glass in front is probably causing even more issue - maybe I should just combine the two - should be easy to try.
I hope to use the chair in a bit more of a featured role at some point - that's a very cool prop! Thanks for sharing it!
