I've been playing Shovel Knight quite a bit recently since the Plague of Shadows DLC came out, and let me tell you, Plague Knight makes the game incredible, plus his story is just adorable.

But lets get back to the topic of the sprite. The game made me want to try and practice making an 8-bit sprite of my own and follow the rules set. This is the first sprite of an OC of mine to be posted on this DA, some people who have followed me before ir have been friends with me years ago would know this character as "Tofuchao". The character was originally years ago, but his first sprite iteration was a chao, and since 2011 I decided that I wanted to disassociate any characters of mine from being fan characters, Tofu being the first. This is an 8-Bit version of his current design. Its not really noticeable but on his back is a set of little wings.

From the process of designing this sprite, I had to work with a limited color pallet, as in "5 colors maximum" (Most NES games had 3 color pallets but Capcom games had 5 which has become the current standard for modern 8-bit colors as of late). For this sprite I had to sacrifice a color to keep to the rules, and the color I chose to give up was yellow (The color of the rim of the hat and the color of the crest on his shirt).

Also after this long winded post, go buy Shovel Knight, go play it, go unlock Plague of Shadows! do it Do it DO IT!
