Today was the day. Month after month of getting Odysseus comfortable with minor tack, training him to obey commands and over all just listen was finally going to pay off. James had registered them to gain their first Rite: the Rite of Merit.
The handler had seen a herd of caribou crossing the outskirts of his cabin in the previous days, only recently having noticed the interest in Odyn's eyes as he caught smells of the beasts from beyond his territory confines. James knew that the circumstances would lead them both to be enthusiastic in one way or another about the upcoming event.
The day of their Merit run, the young handler prepared both himself and Odyn for their first true test as a team. They set out early that morning, and hours passed by which contained no trace of the herd. It was only around sundown that the two had come across the last of the members leaving the tundra plains towards the northern slopes. This had been their chance.
A whistle had escaped James' throat, and Odysseus was off. With the edge of the star rolling over the mountains, their silhouettes grew dark as the target infront of them gave them the time of their lives.
