Personality:
Positive
Bug is a huge optimist. He loves helping people who're feeling down, and helping realize the positive things in life, even in negative situations. In day-to-day life no matter what he's doing, he'll try to do it with a smile on his face! He firmly believes life is what you make it, and he insists on trying to make it happier for himself and those that are around him.
Passionate
A passion for what he does really keeps Bug going. He's very opinionated about these passions, and once he's comfortable around you he's willing to share his ideas! I mean, what's the point in having them if you only keep them to yourself? He's incredibly passionate about working at the press, proud to be even an intern; although what he's really after is a job as a reporter. He knows that at a slow and steady pace, he'll get there someday!
Hard-working
Bug knows that without hard work, you'll never accomplish your goals. Even if being an intern doesn't require much talent, he pours his heart and soul into whatever he's told to do. If he knows how and has the time, he'll always go the extra mile with his work, making sure everything is perfect before claiming to be done.
Obedient
Bug doesn't question orders from his superiors. Whatever he's told to do, he'll do it happily and without questioning! Although if he gets a task he doesn't want to do there may be a bit of complaining in his head.
Friendly
Although he's a little socially dense, he's very friendly! He likes to consider everyone a potential friend, even people who clearly don't like him. He's quite good at remembering faces and names, and commonly greets acquaintances as he sees them from day-to-day life.
Open-minded
Despite being very passionate about the opinions he does have, he always likes to listen and learn more about the opinions of other people. Even if he disagrees, they deeply interest him and he could listen to people talk for hours. Although, he might bring up a bit of friendly debate after knowing enough about what's being said.
Naive
Due to the situation he grew up in, Bug has very little information on Canine Cove's founding and past and living in a civilized town. He almost constantly learns new things about the town's past, and although he finds the history of the town and etiquette interesting, he rarely brings up the fact he knows so little. It's quite embarrassing to him, so he stays silent about it.
Quiet and softspoken
Bug is incredibly quiet. He doesn't generally start conversations, and unless talking about something he feels very passionately for, he speaks in short, choppy sentences. When he does talk, it's very quiet and sometimes mumbly. He'll get more talkative around people he's comfortable with, although these people are few and far between and he still speaks in his soft mumbly voice.
People-pleaser
Bug prefers to get happiness out of making others happy over doing stuff for his personal benefit. It's one of the other reasons he'll do things he's told to do without questioning the logic or purpose behind it. Although this makes him a great worker, it also sometimes causes him to neglect his own personal health. He tends to feel a strong need to get a job done, and if that means not eating or sleeping, it's a so be it situation in his eyes.
Anxious
Although he's really a generally likable dog, he's very anxious about doing things wrong and angering people. It's a partial reason as to why he's so quiet, and so polite. Even when he is angry, he pretends to be happy as to not anger the other dog. He refuses to even be passive aggressive, as that might hurt someone whose really sensitive. He also has a lot of irrational fears.
Self-deprecating
When he does something wrong, he's incredibly hard on himself and beats himself up about it. He tends to also focus on mistakes longer then he should and make a bigger deal out of them then necessary. Although he doesn't show this outwardly to keep his positive demeanor, he easily gets very angry at himself.
Sensitive
When someone points out he did something in his work wrong, especially the person he was trying to please with his work, he doesn't tend to take it too well. Although he'll listen calmly and tries to fix it, it makes him very sad and also somewhat pours into his anxiety and self-deprecation.

Pre-group history:
Bug was born in 1904 in a litter of 2 to his two loving parents, Virginia and Charles. Virginia was the cherished house pet of a rich man helping to develop current day automobiles, while Charles was a tough stray dog who preferred the free life of wandering the city. The first year of his life was spent with his mother and brother, nursing. From the very start of this peaceful period of time, Charles was arguing with Virginia. He loved her, but he wasn't going to become a pet with her. He wanted her to become a stray, live free with him, and raise their pups to do the same. Towards the end of this year, they decided that the barrier between their lifestyles was too much for them to stay together. Since the pups didn't need milk anymore, she agreed to allow Charles to take one of the pups and raise him while she took the other. Charles took Bug, and they went on their way.
Charles and Bug formed a close relationship with each other. He educated his son on how to be independent and street-smart, but Bug never really got the point. He admired and respected his father, and agreed with his opinions on pets and humans and such, but was never really able to get the hang of things like finding and hunting food or getting a taste for food that was thrown out. Despite being pretty bad at the lifestyle his father hoped to give him, his father loved him regardless and patiently taught him more and more. He knew it'd be a long process, but he figured he'd have time to finish teaching him. Everyday he'd bring Bug along on his daily routine, showing him how to hunt, find resources, and avoid humans. He reveled as Bug got better at what he was being taught, but also worried about what would happen when he passed away and Bug was on his own.
When Bug was in his teenage years, he and his father were traveling when came across a train track. Bug's father left to scrounge up a lunch for the two of them, and Bug being naive and immature began playing around the tracks. Charles came back awhile later to Bug being frozen in the headlights of a large train, panicking and unable to move. Charles quickly made the decision to run and shove Bug out of the way, sacrificing himself to save his son. Bug was absolutely devastated, he didn't want to leave his father lying there, lifeless, but quickly forced himself to turn away from the gruesome sight. He had a huge adrenaline rush and began running as fast as he could, not thinking about anything but getting away until the place his father laid was far out of view and range. He then slowed down and hid himself, taking a moment to think about all that had just happened.
Now alone and lost in the world, Bug had no clue where to go or who to turn to. His survival skills had improved greatly since the first few months his father was teaching him, but they still weren't the best and he longed for companionship. He wandered around Boston for weeks. He occasionally found food but not enough to keep him from feeling hunger pangs. One day, he saw a newsboy with some strays gathered around him. It sparked his interest, so he padded up to them, hoping for the best. The boy was sharing his lunch with the dogs! Bug was ecstatic. Finally he would be able to get his hands on some good food that wasn't a disgusting rat or gross and moldy! The boy shared his food with the cautious looking stray, and Bug barked his thanks. The boy attempted to give him a small pat on the head, but Bug flinched away, remembering what his father told him about humans. They think of dogs as inferior creatures, mere animals who need to be taken care of; and they take away your freedom and rights. Bug questioned one of the strays there, who told him that this boy came to the same spot everyday to share his lunch with the dogs who couldn't scrape up enough food to eat. Bug thought about this for awhile, and decided to return the next day since this was the best meal he had eaten in a long time.
Bug continued returning to the boy day after day, long after the other strays had given up. He soon began to trust this boy and allowed him to pet him while he was being fed. Then the boy did something that struck Bug as incredibly odd; he began talking to the him! Not just calling him a good boy, talking down to him like some degenerate, but actually talking to him! He introduced himself as Jack, an explained he was a paper boy and he delivered the papers around town. He said he didn't get much food or pay, but he enjoyed sharing it with Bug, and would like to be friends. This behavior shocked Bug, not many people thought of dogs as equals, so when Jack offered to bring him to his home and share his living quarters with him, he happily agreed. The two became close friends, going everywhere together. Bug helped him deliver papers and everything! Jack taught Bug how to read using the newspapers even though his reading skills weren't the best since he taught himself how to read, and soon they'd have full-fledged conversations together; Jack talking and Bug using his paws to single out words in the newspaper that he wanted to say. Unfortunately Jack never taught Bug how to write, although not doubting the intelligence of dogs, he didn't think Bug would be able to work writing materials with his paws. Jack would constantly talk about his dream of becoming a reporter, and Bug fully supported him, helping him get there in anyway that he could. He finally had the companionship he was looking for, and was incredibly happy about it.
One day, Bug heard about Canine Cove, a civilization for dogs to live with the same rights as people. It was truly a chance for dogs to be free, just like humans! Bug desired to live there but there was one thing holding him back. Jack was his best friend. It was a civilization for only dogs, so Jack couldn't live there. What really got Bug thinking was the fact that he was basically Jack's pet. Even though they were more like friends, and they treated each other as equals, he was still under Jack's care. He wasn't really free. He would've been okay with this, he loved Jack and didn't feel like a pet, but he knew his father would call him a pet and be sad that this was the way he was living now. This made Bug really sad. He didn't know if his father was even still living, but he decided in honor of his memory the best thing to do would be to move to Canine Cove. Jack was also very sad, but he understood and didn't want to keep Bug against his will. He gave Bug a final gift, his homburg and ribbon, and let him on his way. When Bug arrived in Canine Cove he signed up to be a press intern, and has steadily worked up to being a reporter ever since.

Family/Relations:
Virginia, his mother- Barely remembers her. Most of the information he's acquired comes from stories his father told. He respects her and wishes he knew her for longer, and sympathizes with her desire to be a pet although he wishes she had come with him and his father.
Charles, his father- Misses him greatly, and wishes he were still around. He really hopes that he's in a better place.
Clarence, his brother- Doesn't remember him much, but has a few fond memories of playing with him.
Jack, his best friend- Also misses him a lot, he wishes he could still see him but he doesn't even know where he lives anymore. He thinks about him a lot though, and sometimes will imagine scenarios where they both come together to talk again and write big news stories.
--
Extra:
-Bug actually got into the press as a way to remember Jack! It's also the main reason he wants to be a reporter.
-He never takes off his homburg and ribbon, it's another special way he keeps Jack in his memory.
-Sometimes he thinks he dwells on the past too much, but he decided not to really care since the memories of Jack and his father make him happy.
