This is my ideal Mario Kart roster. Really the only clones are the babies, since Cosmic Mario and Cosmic Spirit are different characters.There would also be alternates like Mario Kart 8 -

Ok I think I prefer this one. You even added Baby Yoshi, Kamek & Hammer Bro.
Metal variants I always thought should be an item. All characters will be metal and still in their own colors.

I thought it would be like a half powered version of the star. Some items like fire, lighting, banana, boomerang, piranha, super horn & oil spills are ineffective. Maybe red & green shells have no effect either or just spin you out instead. Bob-omb, blue shells and bullet bills will be as effective as plain shells. Maybe keep control underwater too.
If it can be an item in Smash, would of been nice in Mario Kart. It is an item as a metal shroom in the Mario Kart arcades.
As I said again, this would be a way for all characters to be Metal with unique colors. Silver Luigi, Jade Yoshi, Cosmic Rosalina, Midnight Purple Waluigi, etc.
