Description
The 'Great Striped Church' has massive pillars, all inlaid with glass and in swirling, twirling shapes. Kind of disorienting if you look straight up at them.I went to Italy this past summer, and only recently began rummaging through some of the photographs I took. Admittedly I'm not a professional, but there were several that I really, really liked and felt like putting on here should anyone ever want to use them as stock photography and/or architectural references.
NOTE: All of these are HUGE if you download them and want to use them as computer wallpaper. c:

You could have gone to the little tourist store straight across the square* and bought some prints of the ceiling; that's what I did. our tour guide said that Michelangelo was inspired by that fresco for his Sistine Chapel wall.
Did you see the angel sculpture in the room on the other side of the church --opposite the Final Judgement room-- that was standing over some guy** with it's foot on his head aiming a spear at his throat?
*It wasn't really a square, more of a polygon
**It could have been a serpent
I don't remember...

Meh. I'm cheap. And I think I was running low on Euros at the time. xD
But yeah - They were some wonderfully beautiful examples of fresco secco. I wish I could visit them again. *sigh*

*flail* I love this shot!
It also makes me consider stealing building designs from Crazy Italian Architects Who Need To Take Fewer Drugs.

I'm glad you like it!
They were on so many drugs, you don't even KNOW. I wish I'd been able to take pictures of the mural inside the Church - It was all about the Last Judgment and Eternal Damnation. 8D

Damnit! I want to see.
There was a gorgeous early-era Japanese temple with this dragon painted ceiling that I couldn't get pictures of because of photo rules. I was so mad. The room was lined with bronze gods, too. D<

ETERNAL DAMNATION IS THE BEST.
It did suck that the coolest parts of Italy were apparently non-photographable. One of my second favourite places was the Cappuccini monks monastery - You may have seen it on the Discovery Channel. It was creepy as Hell. The monk took their brothers' remains and decorated everything. Found these on the intrawebz of some of the stuff: [link] and [link] and [link]

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Thanks for the links! I think there's one of those in England, too, but I might be wrong. They started digging up bodies because there wasn't any hallowed ground to bury people in anymore, or so they say.
ALSO. I heard that they call cappuccinos what they do is because the coffee is the same colour as the robes on the preserved Cappuccini monks.
Yes, I get excited about dead people. xDD

No problem! I'd love to see another one of those...ahhh I am so morbid. Corpses are just really cool.
Seriously? That's awesome! I WILL NEVER THINK ABOUT COFFEE THE SAME WAY EVER AGAIN. Delicious dead people are delicious, yes?
Ha ha, I do too! When we were in Rome, our guide asked me what I wanted to see, and I told her: "Dead people. Rotting, preserved, or skeletal. I don't care which." xDDD I got to see what I wanted to, though. >3
