Indeed it is but remember those times women gave birth at home and no matter what the medical knowledge they had (comparing to our ages) was really small and so many women died of septicemia

Now with medicine are saved from death...But also died and many babies...and newborns...Sorry if I missed something...

Not only medicine. Also proper rooms for childbirth an stuff and indeed even now we have accidents. Just imagine back then when none of the above existed
