I use Linux and I use Pidgin to log in to MSN, because even with all the problems it has, I still like it.

Well in ubuntu and with pidgin i got a lot issues with jabber and msn...

Ironically I use gtalk and msn on pidgin and never had a problem, except in Pidgin once when custom emoticons made the program to crash. It was fixed long time ago, tough.
You can try aMSN if you want something more like the official Microsoft MSN program, but personally I dont like it a lot because it runs slow in old machines.

i used MSN, jabber, ICQ on pidgin on ubuntu 9.10 and i got problems x/

Well 9.10 Carmic was quite problematic....and Lucid Lynx is just....

If you dont have hardware issues, Lynx should be nicer, elegant and such. And faster.
But if you have hardware issues, fixing them will be harder due to the modifications they did to the boot removing HAL and things like that.
I've comprobed that by myself.

ubuntu 10.04 on Acer laptop = issues with SiS GPU, display and Wi-Fi XD
ubuntu 9.10 on my netbook = bluetooth and CPU consumption issues

Ironically, Ubuntu 10.04 = No problems on Compaq Presario Laptop.
The only problem I have (is a serious one) is my tablet, and it doesnt count as part of my laptop. XDDDD

I don't know xD When I bought this laptop I thought I was going to have more hardware issues (over all thinking that HP warranty forbids installing any OS different to the one shipped with the computer), but the installation was completely flawless and fast.
Linux Mint -based in Ubuntu- runs smooth and very nice, over all after the first boot (you could have to use the safe graphics mode, but in my case was not necessary) and then installing the restricted drivers. Is a charm.
