Description
I started doing industrial work years ago when working on a goth themed zombie video game. I did my own reference photos with a very old digital camera. I learned to go to water stains and rust as points of interest. Finding this in Chicago was rather easy as there was so much abandoned industrial sites as well as everything was water stained and corroded almost immediately.
This series of paintings has a lot of influence from that. Even though it's tractors in Montana. These old machines stand rusting all over my parents ranch, very few of them have run in my lifetime. At a point they just get too expensive for the work you get out of them. We often used these as playgrounds, pretending to drive them or landing our Star Wars toys on them.
My interest in this is the immense size of the parts such as the massive bolts used to hold it together. The engineering in these were built to last. With less then 14 inches of annual precipitation in south eastern Montana, these things will be standing 100's of years from now.
