Great work! Fantastic levels of detail and a great concept - modelling a modelling medium - lego blocks (not legos... the plural for lego is lego, just like with fish - sorry, but it's a pet hate).

my god man, I would expect to see something of this high quality in an instruction booklet somewhere. What I'm curious to know is whether or not its actualy possible to build. Is it?

So... this was first modeled in parts for each LEGO block and then assembled like it were real LEGO blocks?

This is just sick... Double impact - the fact that you built this out of legos, and that you built and rendered it in 'Max...

awesome man. 3d lego modelling!
really love the details and the functionality
its amazing that its still smooth in viewport with that many polys
i got a 3200+ and 9800 pro but my viewport already slows down with like 50k polys
i think i need to get a R520 later o-O!

great computer and great render isaw evermotion forum and i have question: why do ypu take 2 render and mix up (ambi occul. + gi effect= final image) ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pixelquarry In reply to silvereye [2005-02-19 14:55:22 +0000 UTC]

It's quite simple. The MentalRay AmbientOcclusion Render is a bit different to the FinalRender GI Render - 1st it's much faster & 2nd you can tweak it in an other way than the FR Render. Due to the fact that I needed a layer for adjustments such as brightness & contrast and didn't want to wait all day for it finish rendering, I've chosen the MR method. Might sound strange and unnecessary but it worked.

That's the setup:

FR GI Render for base with high AA settings
MR AmbientOcclusion for Brightness& Contrast with quite low settings for everything but fast rendered (gives the imge a slight dirty look)
FinalToon Render for the Lines

BTW: I don't often use MR but I guess I could have achieved the same results with just one render - but I didn't give it a try

Hey I don't know what the render time is on this thing, so it might make things impossible... But I'd love to see this little buggy animated or something...
Great work... I was looking at some lego peices here at the same time and the detail is perfect...
