Description
So what do we think of my absolutely fantastic handwriting on the blackboard? It says:"Tuesday 3rd April 2012
Subject: English
Lesson: Pronunciation
Hello, my name is ___. Nice to meet [you].
My hobbies are to train and eat [...].
Homework: Read chapters 8 & 9 of the [...] textbook [for] tomorrow."
Now that I think about it, this is all stuff that they'd be taught in Elementary/Primary school.

I know I'm a bit late to comment now, but... I absolutely love the colors you used! They give me this summerish feeling. Your technique just keeps getting better and better.
And your handwriting is still better than mine. :d

Heh, it's fine. You were off visiting Santa Claus, after all.
And thank you, dear!!
Although it's actually the verve effect that gives the summer glow, and not my skill.
Is it? D: I'm sure that's not true. And I was trying to be neat when I did the blackboard bit, so I'm glad it paid off! o/

But it's not the verve effect that chose the colours, is it? But it certainly adds a lot to the drawing!
Yes, yours is way better! :< I love how you switched between cursive writing and eh, non-cursive. xD

Hmmm... To an extent, it does. I mean, I chose all the base colours, shaded etc, but the verve effect alters them slightly through a filter.
Oh that's a natural thing I do. Writing joined up is much quicker and more natural to me, except with specific letters. For instance, I never join up the letter "e" when it's at the start of a word, but I'll do it if it's in the midst of a word (usually). And the letter "j" should never be joined up (in my opinion) - it's too beautiful a letter. But I really doubt that my handwriting is better than yours; it's just different.

To an extent, yes.
That's odd, I don't know many people who does that. We were forced to write like that in primary school, but since 4th grade nearly no one writes like that anymore. That's interesting, as I would most probably join up "e" wherever in a word it is. And I thought "g" and "j" looked beautiful when joined up.
I think different describes it quite well. :>

... Hmmm... Actually, more than an extent; most of the colours appeared to change. orz At least, his jumper and the board definitely did. D:
Really? Writing joined up is pretty common over here. D:
Oh, goodness no! G and j should always be standalone letters.

Bah, won't you even allow yourself any credit beside the shading? You chose the colours, you decided to put the verve effect there and it all looks really wonderful!
And I assume "writing joined up" is the British way of saying "cursive"? In Swedish it's "kursiv", I'm pretty sure you see the resemblance.
And I disagree, if any letters at all should be joined up, it should be g and j!

Pixie-Lips In reply to kuronaa [2012-08-03 23:52:02 +0000 UTC]
Not really, no. D: I mean, it's the programs that did most of the work; I just gave the commands.
Er probably. D: I assume so. xD Cursive sounds really weird, as though the writing is curly or something. D:
Depends on the way you write them. For instance, g and j would look horrible joined up in my handwriting.

Oh god, you really are impossible. xD But you gave the commands after all!
I think it sounds natural, it's much shorter than "writing joined-up" too!
Yeah, it does depend.

Thank you. xD Actually, there's a reason why I don't like to take credit for things. I honestly don't feel that my work is that brilliant, and am well aware of my current limitations. Last night I received a comment that pretty much agreed with me, although they did try offering some advice. Problem is that they didn't focus on any of the good points, just the bad, and I think that may have subconsciously influenced my response. OTL I'm just so worried that I came across as being rather rude, when I really didn't intend to be.
... What's the length of the term's name got to do with anything? O_o Besides, joined-up writing doesn't sound quite as vague a term as cursive does.

Are you thanking me for my efforts of trying to compliment your wonderful artwork or because I labelled you as impossible? xD I can relate with that, I have trouble feeling proud over my work because I always see the faults. If that critic only pointed out the bad parts then it was quite poorly worded. I'm sure as long as you didn't fully intend to be rude, they wouldn't take any offence. Even if your wording was rather harsh.
People are lazy, "joined-up writing" takes longer to write and pronounce than "cursive". And short words are usually better than longer ones, I'm trying to learn Finnish in school so I pretty much know from experience.

Pixie-Lips In reply to kuronaa [2012-09-04 16:04:15 +0000 UTC]
Both. xD Mmmh, think the worst part is that you know you tried your best, but it's still not at the level you want it to be. Or you see a similar piece by someone else, and it's ten times better. OTL
I still don't know if they took offense, because they haven't responded. OTL Poorly worded is a good way to put it. I mean, I could tell that they wanted to help me improve, but the way it was put was a real kick in the teeth. But, you know, I think that just might be their disposition because I looked at their profile, and they were pretty blunt there too on their ID.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why people are getting stupid and obese. All because they take the easy/lazy way out. d:

kuronaa In reply to Pixie-Lips [2012-11-14 15:22:44 +0000 UTC]
Yes, but at the same time if you tried your best your it will be much easier to improve next time when you know what you need to do better. And, well, there is always some one better.
Well have they responded now? yes I'm horribly slow at responding, I wonder how many times I've pointed that out Yeah that probably is the case, or perhaps a culture clash? They'd perhaps be more accustomed to eh, "rude behaviour". Anyhow, I hope you've gotten over it.
Hahah, yeah.

Pixie-Lips In reply to kuronaa [2012-11-14 16:47:35 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... That's debatable. I'd actually argue that it's easier to see where you can improve, but it's not necessarily the case that you can easily improve once you've understood that. Take anatomy, for instance. It's easier to realise where there are problems when drawing, but learning about how to draw it properly is a different matter entirely. In that instance, effort doesn't have much of an input, unless you count the effort taken to improve.
No, they appear to have deleted their profile. Not entirely convinced it was due to a culture clash. If memory serves me right, they were German, and I've yet to encounter another German who was quite so blunt/rude, so I guess it was down to their personality.
And, I have, thank you!
I've actually taken more of an interest in learning about human anatomy, and have even dallied in perspective too!
It's weird though. Each time I come across a comment by that person, they're always criticising the manga art form, saying that those who draw in that style can't draw, as they're only using shapes and symbols...
π: 0 β©: 1
kuronaa In reply to Pixie-Lips [2013-04-10 14:20:28 +0000 UTC]
Absolutely! My point being that to know what you need to improve, you'd have to have tried your best for the best efficiency. Then you could see what faults you would truly need to work on, so that the whole drawing could be better. That is if you're able to find any faults, but usually it's sadly quite easy to find faults in yourself and pretty much anything related to you. E.g. say you rather quickly drew a sketch of a girl but her hands look awkward. You could simply gloss over it saying if you really had tried, you could have done it better which you probably would have. But had you tried from the beginning to the end, you could easily see that you need to work on them hands. And then you could put down effort on improving your hand-drawing skills, no excuses.
Oh, well Germans tend to be nice in general from what I know.
That's great! So I hope you've learned some new things then! Personally I find different perspectives incredibly hard to get right.
...well that's awkward, considering every drawing is made of shapes and symbols.

Pixie-Lips In reply to kuronaa [2014-01-20 17:17:05 +0000 UTC]
I see, that makes sense. As for finding faults, I feel that is really rather dependent on the individual because there are those who refuse to see any, but then there are also those who become almost paralysed by them, so I guess the whole thing really needs an element of balance too in order to be successful. That and time, since it's occasionally that which affects capability and quality, regardless of what it is you're drawing. For instance, if we take your example of drawing a sketch of a girl with questionable hands, it could also be a case of having one of those days where you're having difficultly drawing anything, or maybe being unable to identify what it is that is so awkward. In those cases, a few days would perhaps be just as beneficial as needing to practice drawing hands.Β
Erm... that is indeed questionable! Think I've learnt some things since last April (I'm so sorry it took me so long to respond!), but maybe not as much as I could have because other things took precedence over drawing (i.e. uni). orzΒ
Yeah, just a bit. D: Guess they meant a different way of expressing shapes and symbols than those conveyed in Manga form?Β

That is true! I was speaking out of my own experience, but yes I agree. S'pose I should try to tone down the self criticism a notch. Problem is when those "off-days" turn into an art block, I can't even remember the last time I drew something. I just can't bring myself to pick up a pencil, doesn't seem worth the trouble.
No worries! I know the feeling, school has also been taking up a lot of my time.
Probably, it just sounds a bit pretentious to me. The whole thing about preaching about what is art and what isn't.

Pixie-Lips In reply to kuronaa [2014-01-30 19:22:31 +0000 UTC]
Mmmh, it might help your art block if you do. (: And that does sound like quite the problem, but is it really a bad thing that you're not drawing?Β
How's school coming along? I've pretty much finished uni now - just waiting for results and graduation. It's just my depression that's holding me back. orzΒ
Aye, same. It's a bit silly to be so pretentious over art, isn't it? I mean, it's so subjective that it doesn't make sense to categorise it into something so black and white.Β

Oh my~! I LOVE IT !!!
I really love the background so much! It suits better than mind that I did just a simple BG (because of my laziness OTL)
The board looks so realistic and it fits with Dino-sensei as well and the color looks really smooth.
And the way you put those handwriting in there makes it even better!
Great work for this~! And it's my pleasure that you color it as well dear~~~

Hehe Thank you! That's roughly what my handwriting looks like real life, only I think this is more elegant. D: But I sincerely wanted Dino to have nice handwriting! T^T
Thank you, Skylark! I can't wait to colour more of your splendid works!
