Description
The emoticon wants to fly. I have used this deviation to relate to my animation skills. I want to animate. Yet every time I'm nearly there, I fall back down again.I thought it would be a fun way to a) practice my animating b) show how I feel every time I fail

`SanguineEpitaph stole all the things I was going to say about this.
But yes, I agree with everything said there. The fact that you made this in itself is another step made! You just have to practice/flap your wings and keep trying. Flying will come to you.

Well, I think you can definitely animate. I just think that you may need practice in outlining what you really want the emote to convey. You want this emote to show that he wants to fly, right? I would suggest you make small pencil sketches of the frames of the animation before you begin anything, that way you will have a clear start and end point. It is very helpful to know what you're striving for -- ultimately, you can change your ideas during the animation process, but you definitely want to have a concept before you animate.
That said, I think that you could improve the animation of this particular emote by making it convey its story more. Maybe if you want it to be struggling to fly, you could have it jump up and flail, and then fall back down to the ground. Perhaps changing the facial expression to something like >-< would make it clear that he is struggling.
Animation is not necessarily intuitive, nor is it easy to get. It took me a very long time to get the basics, and I still am not entirely confident in my animation skills. If you want to see what I mean, just look at something I animated awhile ago: [link]
I hope this helps. Just don't get discouraged or you will never be able to see the skill you have.

Thank you. Okay, thank you. I never thought about sketching the animation. That might help, thank you.
Okay, thank you. I'll try again after school and that into consideration
Thank you for all your help and your (very) kind words.
